By: Manoush
Punk Globe:
First of all Hi Marilyn and thank you for taking the time to let me do this interview with you for Punk Globe Magazine.
Marilyn:
"It's my absolute pleasure, thank you for asking me
Punk Globe:
You came to stardom in the 80ies and then retired into a very private life. What was your life like after stardom?
Marilyn:
Well...I was 'known' way before the 80's and my music career. I used to go to clubs in London plus social events, like the open day at Eaton college, and of course,as this was during my homage to Ms Monroe, when I dressed in what was often referred to (wrongly in my opinion) as 'women's' clothes,I was photographed many many times, and so became something of a cause célèbre and started to get modeling jobs and acting work. I did a film called 'Steppin Out' with Lyndall Hobbs and Michael White which opened for the first Alien film all over England, which greatly advanced my public visibility/fame.My life after stardom lol?? I don't know really,I mean I wasn't really paying much attention to anything like that at the time as I was in the midst of a monumental nervous breakdown, which led to me living in solitary isolation for around 20 years!
Punk Globe:
When you compare Marilyn in the 1980ies and 1990ies to Marilyn now how would you describe the difference and personal development??
Marilyn:
How would I describe the difference between the 80's and 90's Marilyn to now? You know 'Marilyn' doesn't really exist today...I mean that Marilyn was born out of intense childhood pain and suffering...I created that character to enable myself to function I guess. It was like a suit of armor I put on,as I'm in fact Peter Robinson. Marilyn was my creation, but unfortunately Marilyn became so immense that I (Peter) almost ceased to exist! My personal development? That is actually a phenomenal journey, that I'm in fact still on! I guess it started when I almost died and had to make a choice, either really die,or start the long road to life again, discover myself,Peter...basically from the ground on up...from scratch!
Punk Globe:
What are your fondest memories and which ones are memories you'rather forget?
Marilyn:
You know, with regards to memories...I don't want to forget ANY of them,as each and every one all goes to make up the whole picture-my life...I don't want to edit my memories as they are memories of my experiences, and my experiences are what all make me!
Punk Globe:
You were good friends with a lot of people in the business and some of them made a nice career. Do you still keep in touch with many of your old friends?
Marilyn:
I have one extremely good friend, that I've been close to for getting on for 30 years (no,it is most certainly NOT who you may be forgiven for thinking it might be)! Most people I'm friendly with... I mean I'm friendly with everyone, but I do not let many people 'in' at all... It takes me a long while to trust someone, because my experiences with so called friends, has not been particularly good on the whole...I was used terribly by so called friends... Anyway, I'm not crying over split milk...I have some incredible friends today, who I trust implicitly.. I'm very lucky in that regard.
Punk Globe:
Do you plan a comeback and if so what do we have to expect from Marilyn in the 21st century?
Marilyn:
Comeback? I've never liked that terminology for some reason... But yes,I have plans, work that I want to accomplish/projects that I'd like to see come to fruition, yes of course! I'm working on a series of interviews,in respect of me actually doing interviewing, I guess it would be termed a 'talk show'. I have a one man show in development as well, along with a biography/autobiography... So,plenty to be getting on with lol!
Punk Globe:
What and who were your own most important influences?
Marilyn:
Most important influences? Like my memories I mentioned earlier, every single sight/sound/person taste and touch, all of it,it's all gone towards making me the person that I am today...the whole complex totality, the combined life experiences MY life experiences, they all make me! I'm being very expansive huh . I guess several individuals and social 'movements' had profound effects upon me,like punk/hippies/being born in Jamaica and not ever having 'seen' skin color, only seeing the person/the individual... Motown/Diana Ross... Opera/Maria Callas... Oh,I have such wildly diverse and somewhat eclectic tastes and influences, which I love about myself!
Punk Globe:
Lady Gaga is a phenomenon of the 21st century. Wild and colorful. Do you see her as the same kind of trendsetter that you and Blitz kids were way back then?
Marilyn:
Lady Gaga? No,I really don't see her that way... Of course I could be absolutely wrong... But I don't see her as a 'trend setter' at all, other than with regards to being a 'ordinary' girl, who has an incredible costumier and wicked publicity team!
Punk Globe:
You and Boy George had kind of a roller coaster friendship over the decades. Are you still best friends and how has your relationship developed?
Marilyn:
George? No...I don't see him as a friend, and looking back through crystal clear and clean sober eyes,I don't think he's ever really been a friend. Someone whose whole raisons d'être was (and still is in many respects) to continually 'trump' me/get one up on me/neutralise me at every opportunity, even to the point of accepting a place a Focus 12 Rehab, purely down to the fact that I had graduated from there, with him having absolutely zero interest in actually helping the organisation, all done purely to 'one upmanship' my hard won accomplishment there... And to make capital out of portraying me in a mostly fictionalized, and in general negative light in his endless deluge of books plays documentaries, songs and articles. No... that most certainly is NOT my definition of a friend... In any way shape form or fashion!!
Punk Globe:
Is there anyone from your past that you really really miss??
Marilyn:
Anyone I miss? Oh...many many people...the people I miss terribly are my grandparents, both sets of them, and my father
Punk Globe:
What does the man of your dreams look like and what would he be like??
Marilyn:
Man of my dreams? That would be telling, wouldn't it.
Punk Globe:
We just had presidential elections here in the U.S. Did you follow the elections? Were you interested and would you mind giving us an opinion?
Marilyn:
The US elections... No, I didn't follow it... You know, I don't believe there are separate parties...I think that what we don't know about how things are really run... Who is really in charge, far outstrips anything we DO know! I think there is so much that is done/decided,a million miles away from the voting and voters, and I haven't got a clue as to how one would find out either!
Punk Globe:
Anything else you would like to say to the readers of Punk Globe Magazine?
Marilyn:
What I'd like to say to the readers? I'd like to say thank you... Thank you for your interest, thank you for your love! Be good to each other... Be proud of your country, your community and your family and friends... Don't be cruel to animals and respect nature and your environment, because we all share all of those things and they, along with you and me,matter!!

Thank You For The Interview Peter... And Lots Of Love and Light To You, Baby!!!
Punk Globe would like to thank Marilyn and Manoush for the great interview..
