There is one common Tangan cichlid: Neolamprologus Tretocephalus five-barred, which is noticeably resemble Cyphotilapia Frontosa.
So don't be mistaken and do get the right fishes when hunting for frontosa. Here are some pictures to share to differentiate the species. These 2 pictures are NOT frontosa. They are Adults Neolamprologus Tretocephalus aka five-barred cichlid. Tretocephalus are very aggressive so are their looks. As their name implies..they have five black bars. They are small specie reaching a max. size of 6". This is a juvenile Cyphotilapia Frontosa Burundi. Yellowish on the dorsal fin. Black bar extend way below the eye. This is a juvenile Cyphotilapia gibberosa Mpimbwe aka Mblue. Blue dorsal fins. When young, some may have bars looking a little fading in very bright tanks. |

Can't stand the temptation and went down again today and got 3 pieces.
Now all 4 are swimming happily with the rest of my Burundi (some over 1.5 yrs old) and other fishes. Last edited by Gowling; 31-05-2011 at 11:59 PM. |
