Tree bumble-bee (Bombus hypnorum)
(04 June 2011)

This large bumble bee is a relative newcomer to Britain having made its first recorded appearance in 2001. It has now been spread across most of England and Wales, though you won’t find it in many reference books on British bees. Fortunately, it is very easy to identify and unlikely to be confused with any other bee.
