Time for some great beetles, guys, don't you think.. ? I recently got the female and completed a great and big pair(their size is +41mm from the tip of labrum to the tip of elytra, and size range of this species is 35-44mm) of one of the rarest and most impressive beetles of Europe.. !! Thanos,
Great to see you've got a pair now, where did you get the female from?

Johnny, they're both from Lithuania, and I got them from the same honest and knowledgeable collector.

Only one small problem : this species is protected, having it is forbidden... You can do everything you want in your collection, but it is quite dangerous for a public forum.
All pictures of dead protected specimens are deleted automatically inothers entomological forums...

entomofou: I think that the only problem is in the brains of some people... . Btw,do you know the dates they were collected ? How you tell they are illegal ? D.latissimus is the same illegal to collect with Lucanus cervus(both not Cites species, not prohibited to collect them in many EU countries), of which (L.cervus) I'm sure that you have a lot of freshly-cought specimens in your collection..(as I,and many others do). Why you don't tell something for L.cervus so for example ? Not to mention the (protected) species that you have cought here in Greece,I think without any licence..-------------> You're moderator in the French insect forum: 'insecterra',and you've posted there photo of Osmoderma lassallei(which you cought on Ossa mountain),which is both protected(for others is eremita ssp.lassallei) and listed in the Greek Red book of threatened invertebrates of my country. So,I could request you to delete the photo from there, but I don't have such brains .. I really don't like people who have collected a lot of protected specimens, and they only tell about protection when they see specimens of other collectors.. ;D. -And OK,you told that I can do whatever I want in my collection, but not to post here. AND I tell you: Is it OK to collect and keep protected species, while it ISN'T OK to post photos of them.. ?? What a hypocrisy to DO 'the crime',and to fear the photographed 'dead victim' .. Chris Grinter -----> I'm sure you have more protected species than me in your collection. And btw,get a life..I don't like your 'jokes' about me,writing also 'hahaha'..,so stop annoy me please -thank you . This was a small break to tell some things - I'm returning asap to my happy mounting work,as I have a lot of specimens to prepare from my recent trips here, and not time for silly arguments. I hope that you, too,do great things with your collections. Cheers, Thanos

You're absolutely right about O. lassalei. When I posted picture of it, I didn't known that it was protected like O. eremita (junior species have the same protection as "mother species"... I will delete immediatly this post.
L. cervus isn't protected in France.
D. latissimus is protected in Lithuania since 2003. If your specimens are older, there is no problem. This species is listed in the Bern's Convention, but when there is no traduction of the protection in country's laws, there is no problem for collecting it. You really should mention the date of capture of your specimens...
I am not interested in what people do in their collections. I just think that it is not a good idea to post protected species pinned in public forums : this is the responsability of administrators which is in game...

I don't see a problem for the admin with such pictures. Only because you have a protected specimen in your collection it does not mean that you or anyone other has done anything illegal. What about birdwings, should we delete all pictures of them here? What about online-shops, should they delete all birdwings pictures at their sites? Should we sell birdwings on ebay without pictures?

would have to agree... i doubt that a couple of pictures of some protected sps in ones collection would result in men dressed in black suits knocking on your door... Even if u admit they were caught illigally
