Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Reuterswärd has died aged 81, the New York Times reports. Reuterswärd is best known for his knotted-gun sculpture Non-Violence (1985), created after the killing of John Lennon, a friend, in 1980. It was first installed in Strawberry Field, Central Park, outside the apartment Lennon shared with his wife Yoko Ono. In 1993, the work became a symbol of peace for the Non-Violence Project Foundation, which aims to teach young people how to resolve problems without violence. There are now copies of the sculpture in more than 30 cities around the world including Malmö, New York, Beijing and Cape Town.
