Barbra Streisand Says She Wants to 'Just Wander' in Husband James Brolin's Truck: 'I Want to Live Life'

"I want to have more fun," the legendary singer and actress said in a new interview with the BBC published Sunday

Barbra Streisand wants to spend her golden years with those nearest and dearest.

Speaking with the BBC ahead of the Tuesday release of her long-awaited memoir, My Name Is Barbra, the legendary singer and actress opened up about her hopes to spend more time with her family and her husband of 25 years, actor James Brolin.

"I want to live life," Streisand, 81, told the outlet in an interview published Sunday. "I want to get in my husband's truck and just wander, hopefully with the children somewhere near us. Life is fun for me when they come over. They love playing with the dogs and we have fun.”

"I haven't had much fun in my life, to tell you the truth,” she added. “And I want to have more fun."

Streisand is a mother to son Jason Gould, 56, whom she shares with ex-husband Elliott Gould, and stepmom to James' three children: Josh, 55, Jess, 52, and Molly, 35. She is also a grandmother to Josh's four kids: Trevor, 35, Eden, 29, Westlyn, 5, and Chapel, 2.

Last year, Streisand’s fellow-actor husband, whom she wed in 1998, opened up to PEOPLE about the secret to their long marriage.

"I think everybody needs to be a negotiator," said James, 83, who was set up on a blind date with Streisand. "Everybody needs to have patience and know when to take a walk."

In her book, Streisand says she met her now-husband "at a point in my life when I had basically given up on finding someone. And frankly, I was all right with being on my own."

"I had my son, I had great friends to keep me company, my work was fulfilling, and I loved my new house in Malibu overlooking the ocean," she continues, adding, "Maybe you have to be happy with yourself before you can be happy with someone else."

"I think the real reason our relationship has endured is that we’re both willing to work at it," Streisand writes. "Jim and I are very different. As he’s said to me, 'You’re an expert at looking for what’s wrong, while I’m just happy to wake up in the morning.' (He’ll live much longer than me. He keeps saying he’s going to live to be 100, and recently upped it to 110. He probably will, with that attitude.)"

Elsewhere during her interview with the BBC, Streisand discussed her decision to put pen to paper for her book.

"It was the only way to have some control over my life," said the EGOT winner. "This is my legacy. I wrote my story. I don't have to do any more interviews after this."

Earlier this month, Streisand also announced that she would be narrating the audiobook for her memoir, which details her childhood, expansive career on the screen and stage and her journey toward stardom.
