Fiat sales continue to grow by 12% globally to 1.35 mn units in 2023

Fiat is the first Stellantis brand in volume in addition to being a leader in Italy, Brazil, Turkey and Algeria, the company said.

In 2023, Fiat saw its global sales increase by 12%, to 1.35 million units, confirming its position as Stellantis' leading brand in terms of sales volume. Its global leadership is accentuated by the significant results obtained in Europe, South America and Africa-Middle East. The brand is leader in its four “domestic markets” with a participation of 21.8% in Brazil, 12.8% in Italy, 15.7% in Turkey and 78.6% in Algeria, and various models at the top of sales : Fiat Strada in Brazil, Panda in Italy, Tipo in Turkey and Algeria.

Europe

Spearhead of Fiat's electrification strategy, the 500e was last year the European number one in the A+B BEV segments, with a market share of 14.7%, up 0.3 points per year. compared to 2022. It also ranked first in Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium and Austria, and second in France.

In the city car market, Fiat has registered more than 230,000 Fiat 500 (excluding BEV version) and Panda, reaching a market share of 44.4%, confirming Fiat's European leadership.

Among commercial vehicles, the Fiat Ducato ranked first in the Stellantis group's Light Utility Vehicles (LCV) and 7th place in the LCV market in Europe.

In Italy, Fiat is the market leader for passenger cars with 175,000 units sold, or 11.1% market share for the whole year.

The Fiat Panda Hybrid, manufactured in Pomigliano, has positioned itself at the top of sales in the Italian market for the 12th consecutive year. With the Fiat 500 Hybrid, the brand reached 66.5% segment share.

The Fiat 500e, manufactured in Turin at the Mirafiori factory, was the best-selling electric city car in Italy.

The Fiat 500X, produced in Melfi, saw sales growth of 25% compared to 2022.

Fiat Professional dominated the commercial vehicle market, with 51,000 registrations, representing a market share of 26.1% in 2023. Specifically, the Fiat Ducato, Doblò and Fiorino ranked first in their respective segments, while the Scudo ranked second with a growth of 2.9% compared to the previous year. Manufactured in Atessa (Italy), the Ducato is at the top of sales, with more than 21,900 registrations and a market share of 29.4%, up +10% compared to 2022.

In the rest of Europe, Fiat is progressing in France with nearly 60,000 units registered, up +7.2% compared to 2022, including 33,000 Fiat and Abarth 500s, including more than 24,000 in their electric version.

In Germany, the 500e is the best seller in the A+B BEV segment and Fiat Professional recorded growth of 40% in volume and an increase of +1.3 points in its market share.

The 500e also dominated in Spain, clinching the title of best-selling electric urban vehicle in the A+B segment, while the Fiat 500 was the best-selling urban vehicle in the A segment for the seventh consecutive year. Finally, in Spain, Fiat Professional recorded sales growth of 28%.

South America

In 2023, Fiat made progress in South America where the brand is the leader with a market share of 14.5% and more than 542,000 units registered (i.e. 45,300 cars more than in 2022), and more than 94,600 cars advancing to second place.

In Brazil, Fiat maintained its leading position in the category of sedans (more than 140,200 units and 22.6% segment share), pick-ups (172,000 units and 42.6% segment share) and vans (26,250 units and 44.5% segment share). In the latter case, sales recorded an increase of 20% compared to the previous year. It should be noted that in the van and light commercial vehicle segment, Fiat has been the number one in the category for more than 15 years. And, for the third year in a row, the Fiat Strada was the best-selling car, with 120,600 units and a market share of 5.5%. In the SUV segment, the Fiat Pulse and Fastback sold 86,200 units over the year, with significant growth of 43%.

In Argentina, the Fiat Cronos has dominated the market since 2021, occupying first place in the B-segment sedan segment with 71.3% market share. It is also the second most manufactured model in the history of Fiat in Argentina, with more than 350,000 units produced, while Strada maintains the first position in the B-segment pickup segment with a participation of 79.4 %.

Africa-Middle East Region

The performance of the Africa-Middle East region is also remarkable. Particularly in the Turkish market, where, with 15.7% market share, Fiat is the first automobile brand to maintain leadership for five consecutive years. This success is based in particular on the Fiat Egea, the best-selling vehicle in Turkey for the eighth consecutive year. The Fiat Fiorino also contributes to the excellent results recorded in Turkey, positioning itself as the best-selling vehicle in the LCV segment.

Fiat has also laid the foundations for its future expansion in the Africa-Middle East region by returning to Algeria in March 2023 and introducing six models meeting the diverse mobility needs of individual and professional customers. Fiat is the market leader with a 78.6% stake and more than 50,000 vehicles sold last year. In the passenger vehicle segment, customers favored the Fiat 500 Hybrid, Tipo and 500X, while Doblò, Scudo and Ducato are the best-selling utility vehicles.

The end of 2023 also saw the introduction of a new model in Algeria, the Fiat Titano, the company said in a media release.
