Where this might be the last bit of X/1999 that exists?
I have no idea how this is going to go but LET’S FIND OUT.
COME ON, X/1999, GIVE ME EVERYTHING YOU HAVE.
Preferably without any death, if you have it.
Probable Trigger Warnings for violence, gore, and death.
THOUGH I WOULD REALLY NOT MIND IF THERE WAS NONE OF THAT.
But if it amuses you let’s pause here to quickly take stock of the things that I think probably happen before we run out of content. I’ve heard that Sorata dies, which would not overly surprise me; there were major hints last chapter that Arashi was going to switch sides, and that this was probably going to be caused by Sorata’s death; the Dragon Family will confront Hinoto and hopefully either trigger her normal self taking control (with Kakyo’s help?), or Kamui will kill her (which seems unlikely, but that’s what she wants to happen?); Fuma will be a dick. Obviously there’s more things that should still happen before the plot’s actual end, but since the series is unfinished let’s see how much of it happens before the chapters stop!
We start off with SOMETHING being weird about Fuma. Which is a welcome change, since this Fuma is awful, but I doubt it’d be a happy change at this point in the horrible plot of awful, so who knows.
And briefly taking stock; Arashi is still missing (does not bode well), Sorata is out looking for her (bodes even worse), and everything is terrible. (So wait, was it just the official translation that listed both of Sorata’s legs as broken because that REALLY doesn’t seem to be the case here?) Meanwhile Kamui wonders if this was fore-ordained AT WHICH POINT I BURST OUT LAUGHING BECAUSE, KAMUI. KAMUI ARE YOU SERIOUS.
THAT’S WHAT YOU’RE SAYING NOW? IN VOLUME 19? OH WELL DONE KAMUI. GOLD STAR FOR YOU.
But also the sword is using him as a telephone WHICH, YOU KNOW, SIGN OF THE END OF EVERYTHING, SO THIS DOESN’T EXACTLY BODE WELL EITHER. BUT SURE LET’S GO GET IT. WHY NOT.
NOTHING IS GOING TO END WELL.
ALSO HI HINOTO.
Surprise level: 0.
But go familiar go! Tell Sorata! Please someone figure this out before the plot ends at least.
I’m half excited and half incredibly upset to see them finally posing at Tokyo tower like all the visions have been predicting from the very first page of volume one. ESPECIALLY since there are only four of them here. This is terrible. I don’t want it.
BUT ON THE PLUS SIDE KAREN AND AOKI ARE THE MOST SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE AND I ADORE THEM.
OH AND YUZUHIRA TOO. YOU LOVELY DORKS. YOU ARE ALL SO GREAT.
PLEASE DON’T DIE.
Like really we could skip this thing entirely and just go home. I’m fine with that. Can we take a vote maybe.
Oh but Kanoe might help with the Hinoto situation? That would be nice. It would really wrap up her whole story arc rather nicely too, so fingers crossed?
It was a surprisingly emotional scene too. I wasn’t expecting to be upset for these two. KANOE CAN YOU DO IT? CAN YOU DO THE THING?
UM. THIS IS RATHER GRUESOME. I -
Well. That was actually awful.
…I am so not a fan of this chapter at all. I AM UPSET ALREADY THIS IS TERRIBLE. WHY DID THAT HAPPEN.
HEY REMEMBER WHEN I SAID IT WOULD BE A GOOD WAY TO WRAP UP KANOE’S PLOT ARC? WHY NOT DO THE OPPOSITE AND HAVE HER MURDERED BY THE PERSON SHE HAS SPENT HER LIFE TRYING TO SAVE INSTEAD? YES THAT SOUNDS SO FUN.
Oh and then she lies about it and says Fuma did it? THIS DARK!HINOTO IS JUST. SO.
IS THERE EVEN A WORD.
I CAN’T DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I HATE IT.
BUT OH SNAP SUBARU.
HEY COME TO WATCH YOUR FRIENDS DIE BECAUSE YOU MADE POOR CHOICES HUH?
AND RUDE TOO.
SUBARU I EXPECTED MORE FROM YOU.
And they kind of fight for a bit.
And Kamui apparently wants something that he is unaware of - which is a really iffy statement to make in the first place Fuma, but sure, whatever.
No Subaru shut up. If you’re not going to be helpful why are you even here. I kind of hate the idea of telling someone what they want, or that they might not consciously know what they actually want. Even with magic involved, I think it’s a shaky moral area in the first place, and telling someone this while they’re at swordpoint isn’t exactly the most convincing way to prove you know better than them. So just, shhh, Subaru. Shhhh.
OH. THANK GOD. COME ON SORATA. DO THE THING. SOMEONE FINALLY CONFRONT THIS WEIRDLY EVIL WHATEVER.
YES GOOD.
Kind of an odd angle to go with but -OH. SO THAT’S AN ACTUAL THING THAT HAPPENED? BUT OH MY GOD. HINOTO YOU ARE THE WORST VILLAIN. Fuma converted Subaru with compassionate reasoning when he was at his most vulnerable and offered him something he couldn’t refuse. And I HATE Fuma, but it was really well done. And you get Arashi coming to you in the same state and what do you do? You just… STEAL HER?
ACTUAL WORST PLAN.
WAY LESS COOL. 0/10.
…no but really, worst villain. But I’m all for Sorata explaining it to them and stuff, so you go Sorata. You do the thing.
OKAY BUT KAMUI REMEMBERING KAREN’S ADVICE WHEN HE NEEDS IT MOST IS WHAT I LIVE FOR. KAREN IS SO IMPORTANT YOU GUYS. THANK YOU CLAMP. But also what have the other three been doing for the last ten minutes or so. Are they still there. And seriously where are the other dragons of earth.
Wait.
WAIT.
THAT’S IT?
BUT.
BUT.
THAT’S NOT EVEN…?
And Sorata is still alive too, so Whaaaaaaaaaaat?
:/
\:
Okay well… in that case, was that the ACTUAL next few chapters as had always been planned, or were Clamp kind of boosting the story ahead a bit to try get as much of the plot out as they could before they had to stop? Because I’m honestly a bit unnerved by the lack of character involvement when it comes to the rest of the Dragons on both sides. And if that IS the case then I can totally forgive that way of thinking, because Clamp tried really hard in putting this all together. And ending it where they did must have been a really difficult thing for them.
AND IS THIS THE PART WHERE I HAVE TO HEADCANON MY OWN ENDING BECAUSE SERIOUSLY THAT’S THE WORST POSSIBLE CLIFFHANGER TO LEAVE IT ON.
But still, I survived X/1999! That’s so weird.
?
All the time Subaru and Kamui bonded together, they did it because they could relate to each other and this had a lot to...
