Dominika Czerniak

Dr Dominika Czerniak is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Criminal Proceedings (Faculty of Law, Administration and Economics, University of Wroclaw).   

In 2014 Dominika received her master’s degree at the University of Wroclaw, after that she started her PhD studies at the Department of Criminal Proceedings, University of Wroclaw under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Jerzy Skorupka. During the studies she visited the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Crime, Security and Law in Freiburg im Breisgau. She also participated as an investigator in national and international research projects:  CrossJustice, Knowledge, Advisory and Capacity Building Information Tool for Criminal Procedural Rights in Judicial Cooperation; (primary investigator: dr hab. Karolina Kremens); Admissibility of Evidence in Criminal Proceedings. Between truth seeking, fairness and effectiveness of proceedings (primary investigator: prof. dr hab. Jerzy Skorupka). In September 2021 Dominika defended with distinction her PhD dissertation “Europeization of evidentiary proceedings in a polish criminal process”. The thesis was written under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Jerzy Skorupka and dr hab. prof. UWr Wojciech Jasiński and was reviewed by dr hab. prof. PAN Hanna Kuczyńska and dr hab. prof. KUL Małgorzata Wąsek-Wiaderek.    

In 2016-2019 she was attorney applicant in Bar Association in Wroclaw.  

Her research focuses on the EU criminal law, ECtHR jurisprudents in criminal cases, human rights in criminal proceedings and evidentiary proceedings.   

She is a huge fan of Italy and Italian culture, cuisine and history, loves animals (has a dog and a cat), trains karate kyokushin (5 kyu so far – half way to black belt!). She also loves long walks and spending time at home with good book, tea and chocolate.
