A short-lived but remarkable sub-shrub native to the coastal Pacific Northwest, this Artemisia forms a low mound of soft, feathery, silver foliage that’s perfect for contrast at the front of garden beds and borders. Foliage-covered, curved stalks bearing tiny, pale yellow flowers rise above the plant in spring and summer. Prefers fast-draining soil and moderate to regular water although care must be taken in inland conditions during the summer not to over water. Can be planted in full sun on the coast but requires cool sun or part sun inland. David’s Choice is a tight, more compact selection of the species that is primarily grown for its foliage. Most consider the flowers to be uninteresting bordering unattractive. It can be easily trimmed off so that it does not distract. Either way, definitely remove the flower stocks after the bloom is finished to help maintain a compact form. Best planted during the cooler months
