SUMMARY
Similar to Hypogymnia physodes, but with lobes that are more erect and tubular (finger-like) rather than flattened. The lobes darken and become swollen (not split) at the tips, and are covered in farinose soredia.
Chemistry: cortex K+ yellow; medulla and soralia C–, K–, KC+ red, Pd–, UV+ pale violet-blue (atranorin, physodic acid and 3-hydroxyphysodic acid).
