SUMMARY
Anamorph: described as a reduced Oedocephalum-type by Paden (1973). Conidia holoblastic and borne on often curved or procumbent conidiophores, ellipsoidal, fusiform-ellipsoidal or obovoid, aseptate, at first smooth and hyaline, becoming golden brown and roughened with large warts.
Teleomorph: ascomata apothecia, 3-5 cm diam., with a long rooting stipe up to 5 cm in length composed of loosely intertwined hyphae, strongly cupulate when young, when mature with the margin irregular, splitting with large spreading tooth-like projections, the exciple pale ochraceous (usually obscured by sand grains), the disc mid to dark brown. Interascal tissue of rather sparse unbranched paraphyses 3-4 µm diam., slightly enlarged (to ca 6 µm) and club-shaped at the apex, thin-walled and regularly septate. Asci 180-230 x 17-20 µm, cylindrical, the base slightly tapering, fairly thin-walled, not fissitunicate, the apex truncate with operculate thickening that stains strongly in Melzer's reagent, dextrinoid when young, 8-spored. Ascospores (15-) 16-18 x 8-10 µm, ellipsoidal, quite thick-walled, hyaline, aseptate, smooth, without an epispore, gelatinous sheath or appendages.
