Original SWAMP THING Star Adrienne Barbeau Joins DC's New Series

Adrienne Barbeau, the female lead of Wes Craven’s 1982 film adaptation of Swamp Thing, is coming back to the franchise. The actress said on social media that she will be in the upcoming DC Universe series and said that she is "Happy to be headed back to the swamps!"

This announcement has since been deleted from her social media accounts, but this is the internet and it’s too late. The cat is out of the bag and it’s pretty cool news!

Barbeau took on the role of Alice Cable in the original film, a female version of Matt Cable, who will be played by Henderson Wade in the new series.

There’s no word on who Barbeau will be playing in the series, but she’s certainly making a great and welcome addition. The actress has appeared in several classic films in her career including John Carpenter’s The Fog, George A. Romero’s horror film anthology Creepshow, and Escape From New York.

Swamp Thing will follow "CDC researcher Abby Arcane, who returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. She develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland, only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all."

The series stars Will Patton (We Are The Titans, Halloween) as Avery Sunderland alongside Virginia Madsen (Sideways), who is playing his wife Maria Sunderland. The series also stars Andy Bean as Alec Holland, Derek Mears as Swamp Thing, Crystal Reed (Gotham) as Abby, Maria Sten (Straight Outta ComptonChannel Zero) as her friend Liz Tremayne, Kevin Durand (Lost, The Strain, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as the villain Jason Woodrue, a.k.a. The Floronic Man, and Ian Ziering (Sharknado) as David Cassidy, a.k.a. Blue Devil.

James Wan is producing Swamp Thing for DC Universe under his Atomic Monster banner. The series will be written by Mark Verheiden (Daredevil, Battlestar Galactica) and Gary Dauberman (It). Swamp Thing is scheduled for release in 2019 on DC Universe.
