Andrés D’Alessandro was heading back out of the country on Wednesday, again in a north-easterly direction, but not this time as far as Europe. In fact, he’s making a short hop over the Río de la Plata and Uruguay to the southern Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, where 2005 Copa Libertadores winners Internacional are waiting for him. D’Alessandro had joined San Lorenzo in January for a year, but with an agreement that if a big offer came in for him he could leave during the winter break. Meanwhile, new Estudiantes striker Mauro Boselli has been endearing himself to fans with two goals as his side drew 2-2 with Vélez at El Fortín.
Internacional have paid San Lorenzo €6 million for the playmaker, brought to Boedo by his former River Plate boss Ramón Díaz. For his part, D’Alessandro understands why some San Lorenzo fans won’t be happy, but insists ‘I’m going with a clear conscience because I gave everything for San Lorenzo, and tried to do my best there… I didn’t come to San Lorenzo for money, but because they’re a big club.’ The former Wolfsburg, Portsmouth and Real Zaragoza player also confirmed he wants to return to Argentina to end his career, but not for San Lorenzo: ‘A return to River is always in my mind. If nothing strange happens in my career I’m going to end it with them.’
Boselli, the former Boca forward, scored both his new side’s goals as, without fellow new arrival Gastón Fernández and old stalwart José Luis Calderón, they drew 2-2 with Vélez in Liniers. For the hosts, Héctor Silva and Jonathan Cristaldo were the goalscorers. For Estudiantes, it was final preparation before their first competitive clash of the season: the Copa Sudamericana qualifier against Independiente (who are playing San Lorenzo in the final of the Copa del Invierno as I type this post, but will have finished it by the time it goes online – result later on Thursday) on Tuesday. Vélez, meanwhile, have one more pre-season friendly, against Lanús.
