Civil War pocket watch featuring portrait of Ulysses S. Grant. 

2 in. early Civil War “patent lever” pocket watch (surface wear throughout, with original bezel, crystal, and hands; not guaranteed to be in working condition). Case obverse with engraved likeness of Ulysses S. Grant inspired by the 1861 portrait taken of him as a brigadier general. 

This watch is of the type widely exported from Europe to capitalize on the lucrative military trade, typically made with an expensive case often enhanced with patriotic motifs.
