Change of Scenery

The Las Vegas residency continues to be one of the most fascinating things about Las Vegas. Its history is rich, a veritable who’s who of the greatest talents of their respective generations. Liberace, Elvis, Celine Dion, Elton John ... the list is too large to repeat in this space. And these days, a residency can mean playing multiple properties! This week’s issue highlights two particularly compelling performers who previously enjoyed residencies at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace: Keith Urban and Usher.

Urban, who begins a new residency this week at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort, sat down with editor at large Brock Radke to talk about his completely new show (“Brand New Digs,” p. 32). Meanwhile, Usher resumes his newest residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM (“Continuing His Legacy,” p. 18).

Want more live music options? Jam band fans will want to check out Widespread Panic, which visits Virgin Hotels Las Vegas this week for a multiple-date stint (“Jam Band Brothers,” p. 36 ). And the man who created the guitar lick that became Eagles hit “Hotel California,” Don Felder, performs at Westgate Las Vegas (“Flying High,” p. 14).

Looking for a nice steak dinner? StripSteak, Michael Mina’s beloved Mandalay Bay restaurant, recently underwent a complete makeover, and the results are stunning (“Well Done, Chef!” p. 28). How about brunch? Pasta Cucina at Sunset Station just introduced brunch on the fi rst Sunday of every month (“And First, We Brunch,” p. 21). Vegans will love Crossroads Kitchen at Resorts World Las Vegas, where every single dish and cocktail is plant-based (“Plant Yourself and Enjoy,” p. 12).

As Las Vegas continues its evolution, we’re thrilled to be the magazine that keeps you informed. Have a fantastic experience this week!

Plant Yourself and Enjoy

Fine-dining destination features vegan Italian-Mediterranean cuisine

For one of the finest vegan meals in Las Vegas, head to Crossroads Kitchen at Resorts World Las Vegas, where you’ll find a variety of inventive dishes.

The local outpost of the popular L.A. restaurants, Crossroads Kitchen opened to acclaim in 2022, bringing plant-based favorites, fully vegan cocktails and Las Vegas exclusives. A cocktail is highly recommended, and the Holy Smoke mixes Casamigos tequila, sweet vermouth and Aperol in an inventive offering. The Espresso Marti-No is a mocktail that’s very delicious—it’s created with Lyre’s coffee nonalcoholic spirit, Lyre’s white cane syrup, espresso and vanilla simple syrup. There’s a substantial wine list, with options for full bottles or by the glass.

One of Crossroads’ most inventive dishes is the calamari fritti, crispy, crunchy, slightly chewy rings that channel a seafood experience. Other appetizers include chestnut foie gras, a spreadable pate served with sourdough, Impossible cigars served with a spicy almond milk yogurt, and baked mushroom scallops. One of the most intriguing things about Crossroads is how closely the product on the table resembles a meat item, most often in texture and looks, although often in aspects of taste. A great example of this is the eggplant short rib, a dead ringer for its meat-based counterpart.

As befits a good Italian restaurant, you’ll find plenty of pastas and pizza, from tagliatelle Bolognese and campanelle with Italian sausage to a classic sausage, pepper and onion pie served piping hot from the oven. With two tasting menus, Crossroads diners can experience either five or seven courses, with wine pairings also available (full table participation required).

Weekend brunch on Saturday and Sunday adds breakfast staples like chicken and waffles, pancakes and a bagel tower with cream cheese, caviar, whitefish and lox, channeling those classic accompaniments with plant-based alternatives. Pair that with a mimosa or Bloody Mary, and your day will have started right. And deliciously healthy. –Nina King

Flying High

Former Eagle heads to Las Vegas for a concert of the classics

Writing a classic rock song was not in the forefront of Don Felder ’s mind as he strummed guitar at a rented Malibu beach house in July 1975. A minor chord grew into a progression as he idly watched his kids play on a swing set. He suddenly realized he had the beginning of a song and recorded the intro to what would become a No. 1 single nearly two years later and provide the title of 1976 Eagles’ magnum opus album, Hotel California.

Felder’s guitar playing is instantly recognizable to several generations that grew up on Eagles music. His tone and phrasing, captured with advancements in recording technology that enabled great leaps forward in fidelity, made him an instrumental part of the band’s success and led to his eventual induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The guitarist delivers a smorgasbord of Eagles hits from “Already Gone” to “Victim of Love” at concerts, diving deep into the band’s catalog to play founding Eagles guitarist Bernie Leadon’s lines from “Witchy Woman.” Leadon was a high school classmate of Felder’s in Gainesville, Fla., where Felder gave Tom Petty lessons and jammed with Stephen Stills. He also learned slide guitar from Duane Allman before joining the Eagles for 1974’s On the Border.

The Eagles eventually imploded, but Felder reunited with his bandmates for their Hell Freezes Over era and flew with them until 2001. He’s since grown confident as a lead vocalist, releasing his latest album, American Rock ’n’ Roll, in 2019. He has played the title track from that album at his most recent shows, along with a cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Pride and Joy” and Felder’s solo hit, “Heavy Metal (Takin’ a Ride).”

Felder will bring his trademark white doubleneck Gibson guitar to re-create the riffs from “Hotel California.” Expect inspired playing as Felder takes it to the limit one more time with expert acoustic picking on songs such as “Seven Bridges Road.” –Matt

A Special Tribute

Fans of Lizzo no doubt are still buzzing about her look at the 2020 GRAMMY red-carpet event—a white Versace floor-length gown accented by sparkling detailing, a faux fur shawl and Stuart Weitzman strappy heels. Well, fans can re-create that red-carpet moment anytime they want at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas: The singer, rapper and flutist extraordinaire’s likeness has been impeccably re-created in wax, right down to the exact nail art and jewelry of that iconic moment.

Upon unveiling her figure earlier this month, Lizzo wasted no time in sharing the moment on TikTok, with an off-camera voice yelling “Dupes!” as Lizzo lovingly held her figure’s arm and echoed that sentiment with a huge smile. Expect plenty of similar smiles as you and your friends take selfie turns. All in all, it’s been quite the eventful year already for the three-time GRAMMY-winning, multiplatinum artist. Her latest album, Special, which dropped in July 2022, had lead single

“About Damn Time” not only hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, but also won a GRAMMY for Record of the Year at ceremonies in Los Angeles earlier this month. (Lizzo also unintentionally helped clear up the “did or didn’t Adele leave during Harry Styles’ speech?” mini-controversy by filming everything on her phone. Final verdict: Adele did not leave.) –Ken Miller

Continuing His Legacy

Performer pays tribute to R&B legends in Las Vegas residency

The legacy of such legendary performers as James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince lives on in a strong way with Usher, who has distilled these influences into his very unique style, which he amply displays at his newest Strip production, Usher: My Way—The Vegas Residency He’s already conquered the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, and if the reaction to his newest shows at Dolby Live at Park MGM are any indication, he’s just getting started.

This is a show that hearkens back to the days of old Vegas, where the stars had the audience hanging on every note, every syllable. Usher’s band, consisting of saxophonists, pianists and guitarists, renders his greatest hits— from “Caught Up” to “U Don’t Have to Call”—with an energy that has everyone dancing in the aisles. And slow jams like “Lovers and Friends” bring out the more, um, amorous side of his biggest fans and their dates.

Speaking of dancing, Usher displays more than a few of his inimitable moves during this show—including an amazingly choreographed chair routine with a cadre of male dancers, as well as on roller skates when performing “Superstar.” (His skating prowess is clear in the music video for “Good Love.”) And the production design here is without peer, including a two-story strip club structure, complete with pole dancers.

“I love the venue,” Usher told Las Vegas Magazine in an interview. “I love the energy and I love the accommodations. It just felt like a natural transition. After considering the type of creative (content) I wanted for this next show, it would be the perfect house to give me that opportunity to shock people.

“I always said if I go to Las Vegas, I would want to play it my way, and maybe there’s some Frank Sinatra somewhere deep in there,” he says. “I think I got some things off my first time (at the Colosseum), but this time? I really get to do it my way.” –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

Awe-Inspiring Getaway

Experience

Every visit to Las Vegas is an opportunity to see the Grand Canyon. It’s a realization people from around the world have while they’re here after they already have a full itinerary. Mental notes are made for the next Sin City sojourn, then life resumes and the idea of experiencing the Southwest’s most majestic natural wonder gets placed on the back burner. But please, do whatever it takes to remember—a string around your finger, a downloaded app—to break this cycle and ultimately lead you to Grand Canyon West

Getting there is as simple as hopping on Interstate 215, the beltway south of the Strip, or US 95 north of downtown, then driving east. GCW is on land owned by the Hualapai, who offer several packages ranging from the must-see Skywalk, pictured, to a two-day rafting expedition on the Colorado River guided by the Hualapai River Runners. Helicopter tours fly above and 3,500 feet below the West Rim, where pontoons await as another river-ride option.

Adrenaline junkies will be unable to resist a zipline that travels 500 feet

above the canyon for the length of more than three football fields at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. The Skywalk is the pièce de résistance of GCW, though. The 10-foot-wide glass bridge extends 70 feet over the West Rim, providing unforgettable views in all directions. The vistas of the land sacred to the Hualapai are nothing less than awe-inspiring.

And First, We Brunch

Start the month off with a great meal at this locals restaurant

Brunches in the Vegas Valley come and go, and one of the more recent additions is at locals resort Sunset Station, where Pasta Cucina recently introduced a new brunch on the first Sunday of every month (next is March 5).

Pasta Cucina is a charming Italian restaurant fashioned as a patio garden, with string lights twisting through trees and over trellises.

Once you’re seated, order a craft cocktail or a bottomless mimosa, a cherished Vegas tradition. The bread basket comes in two sizes, but hey, go big and enjoy muffins, croissants, lemon loaf and other goodies to whet your appetite. The simply named tomato toast piles whipped ricotta, Campari tomatoes, lemon zest and balsamic vinegar on slices of crunchy bread for a perfect light and bright starter. Other shareable options include the antipasti board in two sizes, and flatbreads. The pancetta and egg Florentine flatbread option, with Parmesan cream sauce, pancetta, a sunny-side up egg and spinach, is reminiscent of a traditional bacon, eggs and gravy over biscuits breakfast, but elevated in a very delicious way.

There are actually several egg dishes available, from the Pasta Cucina omelet, loaded with Italian sausage, veggies and mozzarella, to an egg-white frittata with a huge dollop of crème fraîche on top. Lemon and blueberry ricotta pancakes are soft, with ricotta between each layer. Chicken and waffles mean hand-breaded tenders, while brioche French toast gets a flavor boost with fresh strawberries and diplomat cream. Better get your reservation in now! –Nina King

A completely different world from the shop is revealed—a large, dark, seductive space with classy Prohibition-era décor. A large bar, several sofas and table seating and a stage help set the scene for nights of live music and original craft cocktails.

Diverse experience gives general manager big success

Mari Incle is a top woman executive in the Las Vegas nightlife industry, helping to break the glass ceiling of the boy’s club. The Florida native serves as the general manager for On The Record at Park MGM. “There’s always going to be a boy’s club, or challenges, but you just have to stay focused, and that’s what I did,” she says. “I kept doing and managing how I know, and my work spoke for itself. I love that people feel they made the right choice when they hired me.”

Incle is thriving in her new position at On The Record. She joined the

nightclub a year ago and, in addition to overseeing day-to-day operations, takes care of VIP guests, special events and celebrity-hosted nights. You’ll often see her roaming the club. “I make a lot of rounds,” she says, smiling. “The first time I saw the club, I thought, ‘This is really unique.’ I was excited about how different it was (compared) to other clubs. Michael Mina’s redesigned StripSteak is better than ever

For those unfamiliar with the restaurants of Michael Mina, here’s all you really need to know: He’s a perfectionist in the best way. He puts a heavy premium on ambience, service and, especially, food. It’s the reason he’s been so successful, not just in Las Vegas but the world. And one of his first ventures on the Strip, the aptly named StripSteak, just reopened following a lengthy renovation. And, boy, was it worth it!

You’ll immediately be struck by the incredibly inviting “desert lair” feel of the space (it feels like you’re in a spy movie!), courtesy of California-based firm Bishop Pass. Sage-green booths and deep-burgundy chairs really pop against this background. In addition, there’s a new private dining room with the same hues and atmosphere. It seats up to 72 guests.

Mina and executive chef Kyle Johnson have prepared a next-level menu that matches the adventurous spirit of the interior design. “Growing up in Las Vegas, I dreamed of one day working in the kitchen of a culinary legend like Chef Michael Mina,” Johnson said. “Working alongside the Mina Group’s incredible team to lead the reopening of StripSteak is a career highlight, and I look forward to sharing our team’s new vision and culinary creativity with our guests.”

You’ll find not only the great steak program Mina is known for, but Asian influences and creative culinary fusions. For instance, some

Nosh

new starters to really get your tastebuds going include foie gras doughnuts, caviar jelly doughnuts, Maine lobster toast and truffle corn bread. You’ll want to accompany these tasty bites with a tasty cocktail, and the new beverage menu has some doozies, including the Winter Old Fashioned, which uses apple brandy, maple and toasted pecan bitters in addition to the bourbon base, Fruit Ninja, so flavorful with tequila, yuzu sake, lime, grapefruit and honey, and Way of the Sword, a seductive blend of mezcal, Aperol, lime, pineapple, vanilla and jalapeño.

New starters like hamachi nori tacos (where the fish is wrapped in crispy nori and topped with soycured ikura and wasabi tobiko) and crispy Dungeness crab cake (topped with miso cauliflower cream, graffiti cauliflower and winter citrus fruits) really show off Mina’s creative prowess while packing a flavorful punch.

For a real treat as your main course, dig into the duck fat prime rib. A succulent slab of wagyu is smothered in duck fat before being

aged 45 days, and the difference is sublime, especially when paired with a blue cheese popover. More traditional entrées—but still reimagined—include the Kurobuta pork tomahawk, topped with sliced Fuji apples and a hot Japanese mustard sauce mixed into a creamy savoy cabbage, and the Japanese A5, cooked in a red wine-shallot butter bath before being finished atop a mesquite grill.

Full? You should still seriously consider dessert. The warm beig-

nets for two comes with Macallan butterscotch pudding, chocolate pot de crème and a vanilla crème brulée; this is one of the best desserts on the Strip, no joke. But there’s also a delightful orange creamsicle made with tangerine cream mousse, vanilla soil and a citrus swirl sherbert, as well as a lemon meringue crackle cheesecake, featuring yuzu curd, crispy meringue and graham cracker crumble. It’s all so cool and exciting—just like the reimagined StripSteak as a whole.

Keith Urban pumped to introduce his Planet Hollywood Resort residency

After making his Las Vegas Strip residency debut at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in 2019, country superstar Keith Urban is doubling down with an all-new show, Keith Urban: The Las Vegas Residency, just across the street. He’ll take the stage at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort for concerts stretching well into summer, beginning on March 3. And when he says it’s a new show, he means it—the GRAMMY and ACM award-winner is updating everything about his Vegas production, building an experience where anything can happen at any time.

How are you feeling about this big move from Caesars to Planet Hollywood Resort?

It feels like a fresh beginning. We had a blast over at the Colosseum,

and really, I was shocked at how much I enjoyed doing a residency. I think I had a di erent idea of what it might be like, kind of worried it would be playing the same room, the same show, night after night. I wasn’t chomping at the bit to get into something like that, but it turned out to be di erent every night. I was pleasantly surprised how every night in Vegas is unique and how much I can take advantage of the epic nature of what you can do in those rooms, as well as the intimate nature of what those rooms can be.

So playing Vegas this way presented more freedom than you thought you would have?

Absolutely. You can design a stage that doesn’t have to be packed up and traveled, and that really opens

up possibilities. You don’t have to think about logistics.

Zappos Theater has a di erent kind of energy, always ready for a party. Are you looking to take advantage of that as well? Totally, it feels like a room built for more spontaneous electricity. Look, I grew up playing in clubs and pubs, places with a concrete floor where everybody was packed in like sardines. That’s the foundation for what I do, and over the years I’ve been fortunate to work with great production and design people that can add more dimension to that. But there’s no doubt that the spirit of what I do was born in those clubs.

It sounds like fans will witness a totally new experience. Very much. The only thing I think will be consistent is that spirit that always happens at our shows. We’re looking for new ways to interact with the audience, and how we go about doing that is very di erent from anything I’ve done before. The look of the stage, the flow, and some of the musical moments are also things I haven’t done before.

With Las Vegas and some summer tour dates on the docket, you have a busy year ahead. Is there time for new music?

I’m fi nishing up this album I’ve been working on for the last year and hopefully it will come out in the middle of this year. We have three singles o this album out already, and we’re putting out another in a few months. And Vegas is a great opportunity to put in those new songs, and mix them in with some O.G. kind of songs that people want to hear. Being able to blend things together in one show, I feel very lucky.

There’s always something a little naughty—OK, maybe way naughty, even bordering on the perverse—about a Spiegelworld show. You have the vaudevillian, circus-themed Absinthe at Caesars Palace, the Wild West-themed Atomic Saloon Show at The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian, and then you have OPM at The Cosmopolitan. OPM ’s theme takes audiences on a futuristic trip aboard a

starship to a deep, dark place filled with tons of gas: Uranus. (Insert laugh here!)

What you get at OPM is nonstop laughs of the X-rated variety mixed with a whole bunch of performances that show o a whole bunch of crazy talents.

Your in-flight entertainment on the starship is led by the very randy and raunchy host Andromina, who particularly loves to roast all the passengers—so beware!

She’ll guide you through a cornucopia of acrobatics, comedy, stunning physical feats, magical moments and a bunch of shenanigans. Grab the edge of your seat for acts like a hand-and-body-balancing duo who bulge muscles you didn’t know exist; a sultry seductress that literally hangs by her hair up in the air; the roller-skating duo that spin into a frenzy of nail-biting maneuvers; and a game of lim-

OPM is a fun ride through entertainment at The Cosmopolitan

bo led by a talented woman who slithers across the floor mere inches o the ground while balancing trays of cocktails.

OPM also gets audiences oohing and ahhing during several creative numbers like a drumming trio who show o mad musical skills while turning up the flirtation factor. And you won’t want to blink during the bubble guy’s performance—you’ve never been more moved

by the basic combination of soap and water molecules.

Comedy is continual throughout OPM, just as in all Spiegelworld shows, and since this is an adults-only show, the laughs are supplied through a ton of edgy bits and inappropriate visuals. But isn’t that why you came to Las Vegas? This show constantly reminds guests what they really want to do when in Sin City: Lose all inhibitions,

have some out-of-the-box fun and get a little dirty (OK, way dirty).

Try and arrive at the show before its start time, as the theater o ers its guests a little pregame action with a couple of different bars areas to enjoy specialty cocktails. After all, if you’re taking a wacky, wonderful starship ride from the third rock from the sun to Uranus, aren’t you going to want to get lubed up?

Widespread Panic layers on the musical talent in Las Vegas run

Widespread Panic is a preeminent jam band, a preferred taste of live concert connoisseurs and founders of a following that first flocked together nearly four decades ago. Panic helped revive the practice of acts booking multiple dates at venues, such as their upcoming threeshow run at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas.

“We look at all these towns that we’ve been going to for 30-plus years as a museum and we just leave our art there,” says percussionist Domingo “Sunny” Ortiz, pictured far left, in a phone interview. “They can do with it what they want to because, man, it still is an energized machine with lots of movement involved, and I think that’s what keeps us fresh.”

The band holds the record for most sold-out performances at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre (66) and comes to Vegas after the latest iteration of its own Panic en la Playa festival on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Only a well-maintained vehicle can travel that far and long from humble Athens, Ga., college town origins, which could make Ortiz the timing chain.

Ortiz prefers to think of Widespread Panic as a baked potato. “We’ve got the drums, which is the actual baked potato, because that’s what drives—Duane Trucks. And then if you want to add but-

36 | 2.26.23 Las Vegas Magazine

ter you add Jimmy Herring. If you want to add bacon you can add JoJo Hermann. If you want cheese you can add Dave Schools or J.B. (John Bell). I feel like the chives. You can either take it or leave it.”

Fortunately, Ortiz elaborates, keyboardist Hermann, bassist Schools and guitarist/vocalist Bell enjoyed the Texas native’s playing enough at the first gig he played with them in Athens on Oct. 6, 1986, that there would be chives on their potato from then on. While Trucks, who took over from founding drummer Todd Nance in 2016, keeps the beat, Ortiz can

react to guitarist Herring’s flurries and flourishes or Hermann’s Southern rock piano pounding.

The lineup has been relatively stable since Herring joined in 2006. The band’s repertoire still contains compositions by original guitarist Michael Houser, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2002 (Nance died in 2020). A 2022 album release, Miss Kitty’s Lounge, featured demos recorded in 1990 such as “A of D,” “Pigeons” and “Conrad” that would go on to become concert staples. It also contains “Love Tractor,” go-to

evidence of what Ortiz contributes to the music. He adds not only polyrhythms but also the legacy of percussionists that came before him, such as Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria.

“You look at bands now and unless you’re a Latin band or have that Latin feel-groove … percussion players, you can take them or leave them,” says Ortiz. “My philosophy as a percussion player is, I just add color to the music. When it’s time to play a Latin feel or a Latin groove, we’ve got that covered. I feel very fortunate to be around these other brothers of mine.”

There are plenty of ways to enjoy Las Vegas other than the Strip. Get outdoors for a solo trip or bring your partner or family and check out nine great biking experiences. Whether it’s checking out the beautiful scenery on a nice slow-paced ride or putting your cycling skills to the test, there’s great options for everyone.

1

RIVER MOUNTAINS LOOP TRAIL

You can actually access this bike path from the Union Pacific Railroad trail. Just cross over the bridge and this path will take you to popular points like Lake Las Vegas and Hoover Dam. This loop is more than 35 miles, so pick your paths wisely if you don’t plan on making this a long trip. The paved trails are surrounded by the River Mountains where big-horned sheep roam, so don’t be surprised if you catch sight of some along the way.

2

RED ROCK SCENIC LOOP

Bike 13 miles of beautiful scenery along the paved Red Rock Canyon Scenic Loop. While cars also share the road, it’s safe for riders. While enjoying the views of striking desert mountains and foliage, you’ll find a climb that will test your endurance, but the winding descent is a nice reprieve.

3

PITTMAN WASH TRAIL

A trail perfect for a leisurely family ride through

the Green Valley neighborhood—just a short drive from the Strip—is the Pittman Wash Trail, a 4-mile ride. Enjoy the paved path lined with trees and manicured landscaping. There are tables along the way, so it’s a great spot to have a picnic, too.

4 BOOTLEG CANYON

About a half-hour drive from the Strip, Bootleg Canyon offers 36 miles of tracks for those looking for a challenge or adrenaline-packed experience.

River Mountains Loop Trail

Winding mountain tracks that overlook Lake Mead and the steep downhill trails give riders a workout, but visitors from around the world rate this biking adventure high on their list.

UNION PACIFIC

5

RAILROAD TRAIL

Ride nearly 8 miles following the railway tracks through the city of Henderson, a neighborhood just a short drive from the Strip. The tree-lined trails cut through residential and shopping areas and for the most part are a breeze to bike, making them good for families with little ones.

6

WETLANDS

LOOP TRAIL

This trail is for the nature lovers out there. The 210-acre Wetlands Park is home to a nature preserve with hundreds of species of animals. It’s also where you’ll find the 14-mile loop that stretches around the perimeter of the park for multiple uses, including biking.

7 BLUE DIAMOND LOOP

Head to the quaint little town of Blue Diamond and head out on 8 miles of

beginner trails that stretch through desert landscaping and surrounding mountains. There’s a short distance of steep terrain, but for the most part, this is an easy biking experience with a fun, downhill ride on your way back.

8

MOUNT CHARLESTON

You can’t beat the weather up at Mount Charleston—it’s usually around 20 degrees cooler and seems like a world away from the neon lights. It’s also where you’ll find dozens of bike trails from

beginner to difficult. Some popular rides include the 4-mile Tin Can Alley trail and the adrenaline-pumping, steep downhill ride on the Chutes and Ladders trail.

9

SUNSET PARK

The largest park in the county—more than 300 acres—can be found just a quick drive from the Strip and offers a plethora of outdoor activities including a fishing lake, picnic areas, disc golf, multiple playgrounds and four different family-friendly biking trails.

Historic Elegance

Upgraded Scotch 80s home serves up old-school luxury

For that truly old-school luxury feel in Las Vegas, you can’t beat the Scotch 80s neighborhood. It was Southern Nevada’s first masterplanned community, and the loving care that went into it decades ago shines through in every detail.

Across its 120 acres lie some of the most beautiful homes you’ll see anywhere in the country, full of details like gigantic exposed beams and welcoming porte cocheres. It’s dubbed the “residential crown jewel,” and a home has just become

available there, a sprawling estate with charm to spare.

This one-story, 6,678-squarefoot beauty, listed by Ivan Sher of IS LUXURY, has three bedrooms and six bathrooms. And if you have a large car collection, good news! In

42 | 2.26.23 Las Vegas Magazine Courtesy photos

addition to a two-car garage, there’s a separate car collector’s garage that accommodates up to eight automobiles. And, as you can guess, the structure is a showcase all its own.

As you explore the grounds—this home lies on 2 acres—you’ll be struck by the care in every detail. All landscaping is mature and well-maintained; you feel like you’ve escaped to your own private oasis.

The midtown, midcentury modern home has been completely

updated in a Frank Lloyd Wright style, with restored wood beams and tongue-and-groove ceilings. Most of the gathering areas open via sliding glass doors to a covered patio adjoining the courtyard; it’s a wonderful indoor-outdoor space that’s perfect for endless get-togethers.

One highlight of the interior is the chef-style kitchen, including a large island, Wolf and Miele appliances and a Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer unit. All three bedrooms have plen-

ty of room and offer privacy, but the primary suite has the added bonus of opening to a private patio with a hot tub and sauna.

The backyard is full of so many cool details, including a pool and outdoor barbecue area that is complete with seating for your hungry guests. –
