Legendary bodybuilder Phil Heath inducted into the Hall of Fame

Phil Heatha bodybuilding legend with 7 Mr. Olympia victories to his name, announced his induction into the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2024. We take a look back at the exceptional career of the man nicknamed "The Gift", in reference to his incredible physical abilities.

A well-deserved distinction for a unique athlete

It was via a post on his Instagram account that Phil Heath revealed his induction to the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2024.

L'International Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization whose mission is to pay tribute to athletes who have made their mark on the history of their sport. Fairfax Hackley, vice-president of the organization and himself a former bodybuilder, was in charge of telling Phil Heath the good news.

The American bodybuilder joins other great champions of the discipline. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronnie Coleman, Lee Haney, Franco Columbu, Lou Ferrigno or even Jay Cutler have already had the honor of receiving this prestigious distinction.

Phil Heath is also joined by other great athletes such as Thor Bjornsson (strongman), Marcus Allen (NFL American soccer player), Ronda Rousey (UFC champion) and Earl Monroe (NBA basketball player).

The induction ceremony will be held in March 2024 in Columbus, Ohio, on the occasion of the Arnold Classic.

Who is Phil Heath?

Before being recognized as one of the most great champions of his discipline, Phil Heath has shown great determination throughout his life.

Born on December 18, 1979 in Seattle, Phil Heath first shone on the fields of basketballat fullback. After making a name for himself with his outstanding performances in high school, he won a scholarship to the University of Denver (Colorado).

In parallel with his sports career at the highest university level, he prepared for and obtained degrees in information technology and business administration.

Aware that he would never make it to the prestigious NBA, he gradually gave up basketball to concentrate on fitness. He officially entered the world of bodybuilding in 2002.

He won his first local competitions the following year. He was only 24 at the time.

Throughout his career, Phil Heath has sported an incredible physique.

An athlete with an incredible track record

In 2005, Phil Heath won the NPC USA Championships.

In 2007, he took part in his first Arnold Classic, finishing 5th. The event was won by Dominican Victor Martinez. In 2008, he took silver in the same competition, just behind Dexter Jackson.

For his first Mr. Olympia the same year, the American bodybuilder finished on the last step of the podium. A great favorite the following year, he fell ill just before the competition and lost almost 5 kilos. He finished 5th. It was a huge disappointment for him, and one that would encourage him to come back even stronger in subsequent years.

To progress, the bodybuilder has trained a great deal in the Gold's Gym in Los AngelesHe has worked with some of the world's greatest. He has worked with the famous trainer Hany Rambodinventor of the FST-7 method.

It was finally in 2011, at the age of 32, that he finally claimed the Grail and began his impressive hegemony. He overtakes Jay Cutler, one of his greatest rivals.

He went on to win the next six editions, achieving the feat of winning seven consecutive titles at Mr. Olympia (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017).

This performance enabled him to equal Arnold Schwarzenegger and overtake Dorian Yates in the number of Olympias won. Only the legendary Lee Haney and Ronnie Coleman did better, with 8 wins.
