Kdhx was my go to for 17 years.
Management in 2023, destroyed this once diverse wonderful station.

KDHX was once the jewel of St. Louis radio. In 2023 current management has squandered the community support it once had and made the station almost unlistenable. A total of 13 DJs have been fired and about the same number have resigned or are striking in support. Since these ill-considered moves by management the station has been plagued with dead air and on-air profanity, and many hours of air time are being filled with boring playlists. KDHX is now far from being a jewel. Let's hope there is a management change SOON.

Due to the DJ firings and resignations that have happened over the past several months, I am updating my review to "not good" because the current Executiive Director, Kelly Wells, and her accomplice, Gary Pierson (president of the Board of Directors) are systematically shutting the community out of their decision-making process and in fact aren't even living up to the guidelines that were set forth in the stations original mission statement and bylaws. I will not listen to, volunteer for, nor support monetarily this radio station until Kelly and Gary are gone. For more info, visit savekdhx.com.

I can't imagine life without it, actually. There's something here for virtually every type of music fan out there, except for maybe Top 40 (is that even a commercial format anymore?) or the other generic cookie-cutter type formats (young country, modern rock, etc.). But if you're a fan of REAL music, then KDHX is for you. Blues, bluegrass, R&B, indie rock, punk rock, new wave, soul, garage rock, ska, reggae, folk, hip hop, electronic, world music, classic country, rockabilly, jam bands... you name it. KDHX serves the community by presenting programming unique to the St. Louis area as well as providing useful community events and concert information, and the station is always right out there in the community supporting various festivals and events. It truly is a gem, and I listen to it any chance I get.

This is a 'community' radio station which has capriciously fired numerous staff, plays computer selected music and is generally tone deaf towards the town it's supposed to serve. Don't waste your time or money.

Was a great station, but they got rid of a lot of their DJs, and even more went on strike. Repeating playlists, poor song selection, and even dead air for multiple minutes at a time are common now.

Very disappointed in the changes, loss of excellent programming knowledge of the DJs. No presence at any music events is a loss, it expanded the audience and turned me on to local music. I've heard dead air and what sounds like automated programming that repeats in thevsame order from day to day

Used to be a place to go for insightful DJ interaction between music choice and listeners. Now it's just an experiment in management by hacks.

Once upon a time, KDHX was an outstanding radio station, populated by a wide range of highly skilled and knowledgable DJs and programmers that always brought something fresh to the airwaves. Sadly, this is no longer the case. Over the course of the last four years, through gross mismanagement by the "leadership" staff. The quality of the station has declined miserably. Most notably, over the last several months thirteen long time volunteers (we're talking about people that have dedicated anywhere from 15 to nearly 40 years of their lives to the betterment of the station) have been dismissed without cause or due process. As a result of these firings an additional 23 volunteer DJs have walked out on strike, in solidarity with those that were dismissed without recourse. Calls for redress and arbitration have fallen on deaf ears, and the station now has over 40 hours a week of automated music as programming every week. The community has been removed from the equation of what is purported to be community driven public radio. What remains of the programming of this once great radio station is in a shambles. There are a few stalwart DJs hanging on by a thread at the station, but even they are at threat of dismissal without notice. You would be better served to seek out another community radio station for your listening pleasure. WWOZ from New Orleans, and KEXP from Seattle are still fine examples of what true community radio station can be. Unfortunately, KDHX can no longer count itself as a member of that category.

Awesome and eclectic mix of various musical genres and staffed by non-professional DJ's who curate their own music and all are well qualified for their choices of music. I'm a serious blues fan and there are a few shows that you shouldn't miss if you like the blues. Tom "Papa" Ray is a must on Monday afternoons and Art Dwyer does a great show on Friday afternoons. Real blues and not a lot of ego lifting DJ bull
