QinetiQ Corporation is working on a new batch of QinetiQ TALON robots for the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

This is stated in a press release from QinetiQ.

Prior to the full-scale Russian invasion, Ukraine has already been using more than 12 TALON robots. Additional 10 TALONs will be arriving soon to aid Ukrainian defense forces.

In 2014, QinetiQ US began sending teams to the Ukraine to train combat engineers in the use, operation, and repair of TALON robots. In the last eight years, the QinetiQ team has trained more than 100 Ukrainian soldiers in TALON operations.

These controlled robotic systems are widely used to mitigate risks from explosives and chemical warfare.

The TALON has been the robot of choice in combat situations around the globe since it was first deployed over 20 years ago.

With the ability to locate and dispose of explosives, identify anti-personnel mines, and conduct surveillance and reconnaissance, TALON provides safety and security for soldiers.

A large percentage of Russian bombs remain unexploded after deployment, posing significant danger to both military personnel and civilians. TALON not only detects the location of these bombs, but also disposes of them.

“QinetiQ is poised to assist in any way possible, standing by Ukrainian soldiers as we have since 2014,” the corporation’s statement says.

The TALON robot’s basic version measures 86.4 cm long, with a height of 42.7 cm, and a maximum weight of 52 to 71 kg. It can carry a payload of 45kg and tow a load of up to 680 kg. The power plant allows it to develop a speed of up to 8.3 km / h and work without recharging from 2.8 to 4.5 hours depending on the nature of the terrain and the task performed. The standby mode lasts up to 7 days.

The distance of the robot control is 300 m via cable, up to 500-800 m via radio, and up to 1000 m with an elongated radio mast. Its standard manipulator can lift a load of up to 11 kg with its fully extended “arm”.
