Kate Winslet says her daughter isn’t getting roles because of her famous mom.
The famed actress says that casting directors haven’t known her daughter, up-and-coming actress Mia Threapleton, is related to her.
“What’s been really great for her is she has a different surname so that initial job out of the gate, she slipped right under the radar,” Winslet told TV host Lorraine Kelly during a recent interview.
Threapleton, 20, made her acting debut in 2020 in “Shadows,” an Irish thriller.
“The people that cast her had no idea she was my daughter,” the “Titanic” star said, officially spilling the beans.
“That was my biggest fear, and really important for her self-esteem, of course.”

Threapleton is Winslet’s eldest child. Her dad, Jim Threapleton, is a director who was married to Winslet from 1998 to 2001. Winslet, 45, is mom to two other children, Joe Mendes, 17, and Bear Winslet, 7.
Winslet knew her daughter would step into the spotlight at some point, she said.
“I think I always suspected. And then sure enough, a few years ago, she turned around and said ‘I would like to give it a go,'” the Brit remembered.
But it’s within the realm of possibility that casting directors were tipped off to Threapleton’s famous lineage — a quick Google search would reveal as much. The young actress said she had instant luck at her first audition.
“‘Shadows’ was the first film I’d received an audition for, and the first script I had ever been given to read,” Threapleton told Variety last year. “I couldn’t believe my luck.” The youngster said she had wanted to get into acting “for so long.”
Threapleton, who also managed to stay out of the spotlight of her famous mother, said she didn’t spend much time on set growing up.
“It was always a special treat,” to visit her mom at work, she said. “It’s a very different experience when it is happening to you, and not just something I was getting to observe from time to time.”
Currently, Threapleton is in the Czech Republic filming “a little TV series,” said Winslet. “That’s been really great.”
