Monster ID7706

TzKal-Zuk, often referred to as Zuk, is the last monster encountered in the Inferno. It is currently the third strongest monster in Old School RuneScape, and the second strongest monster that must be challenged alone.

Players can pay 100 slayer reward points to have Duradel or Nieve assign TzHaar as a slayer assignment. When players have TzHaar as a slayer task, they will be prompted with an option to be assigned 1 TzTok-Jad or 1 TzKal-Zuk; the latter requires having killed TzKal-Zuk at least once before being able to have him assigned. Players who succeed in defeating it on task will receive 101,890 Slayer experience, for a total of ~125,000 Slayer experience with the experience gained from the waves.

History[edit | edit source]

Sometime prior to the Fifth Age, TzKal-Zuk was imprisoned behind the Ancestral Glyph within the Inferno.

During the Fifth Age[confirmation needed], the TzHaar in Mor Ul Rek sought to increase the depth in which they incubated their eggs in order to have newly hatched TzHaar gain distant memories of their ancestors.[2][3] However, when they attempted to incubate their eggs deeper and deeper within the birthing pool,[4] it collapsed and the Inferno was discovered by the TzHaar, which they believed to be an ancient incubation chamber.[5] Deciding to test the chamber, the TzHaar took eggs from creatures in the Fight Cave,[6] only to realise that they became feral and much more powerful.[7]

Zuk, imprisoned within, managed to gain control over the feral TzHaar.[8] Unable to keep the threat under control, the TzHaar sought adventurers to reduce the number of offspring within the Inferno.[9][10] Adventurers who have battled through many waves of them will witness the breaking down of TzKal-Zuk's prison, and must battle with him.[11]

Fight overview[edit | edit source]

As TzKal-Zuk is isolated from the platform the player is on, it cannot be attacked with melee. Only ranged or magic attacks will be able to reach Zuk.

As the fight starts, a shield will appear to offer protection from Zuk's attacks. The shield will move, so players will need to move alongside it to avoid taking damage from Zuk. If the player is not covered by the shield when Zuk attacks, they run the risk of taking massive damage; Zuk is extremely accurate and can kill a player from full hitpoints (including over max) and its attacks cannot be tick-eaten.

The projectile attack performs a hybrid accuracy roll of a mage and range attack based off of the player's and Zuk's stats, which rolls the average of the player's effective Ranged defence and effective Magic defence against the average of Zuk's effective Ranged accuracy and effective Magic accuracy.[12] The same goes for the projectile's damage, which consists of a single roll between 0 and the average of Zuk's maximum Magic hit and maximum Ranged hit.[1]

Throughout the fight, Zuk will spawn minions:

  • Periodically, a Jal-Xil (ranger) and Jal-Zek (mager) will appear throughout the fight and attack the shield; once attacked, they will instead target the player. If the shield takes too much damage, it will be destroyed, leaving the player fully vulnerable to Zuk's attacks.
  • At 480 hitpoints, a JalTok-Jad will appear and attack the shield.
  • At 240 hitpoints, Zuk will become enraged as it fights for its life, attacking 3 ticks (1.8s) faster and summoning four Jal-MejJaks on the lava in front of it. Once attacked, they will stop healing Zuk and bombard the player's area for 5-10 damage with area-of-effect attacks.

Any remaining minions when TzKal-Zuk is killed will automatically die with it.

  1. ^ Jal-nib-rek drop rate is 1/75 if TzKal-Zuk is killed while on a TzHaar slayer task.

Rewards[edit | edit source]

Should players manage to defeat TzKal-Zuk, they will be awarded the untradeable infernal cape, which is the best melee cape in the game, along with 16,440 Tokkul (doubled if the player has completed the Elite tier of the Karamja Diary).

There is also a 1/100 chance of receiving a Jal-nib-rek pet upon defeating TzKal-Zuk. Outside, players may give TzHaar-Ket-Keh any unwanted infernal capes for a 2nd chance at a Jal-nib-rek, having also a 1/100 chance.

When exchanging the cape, you increase your effective chance to ~1/50 to receive the pet (~1/43 on slayer task).

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • "TzKal" in the TzHaar language translates into "Champion of the Fire".
  • Although TzKal-Zuk is referred to as "him" when it becomes enraged by TzHaar-Ket-Keh, Jal-Nib-Rek mentions "Zuk is mum".
  • TzKal-Zuk is one of the first pieces of content conceived in Old School RuneScape that went on to be used in RuneScape. TzKal-Zuk is a demigod warlord from the Second Age who acts as Ful's general in the Elder God Wars Dungeon.
    • The RuneScape variant of Zuk uses a full humanoid model (with feet) and primarily attacks with a massive obsidian sword, though he is also capable of using magic attacks; he is not capable of using ranged attacks.
    • The RuneScape variant also has a combat level of 14,000, ten times that of the Old School Runescape variant.
  • Previously, TzKal-Zuk was described by TzHaar-Ket-Keh as being one of the many newly-hatched feral TzHaar that rose to dominance over its brethren. This no longer appears to be true, and TzHaar-Ket-Keh now states that he doesn't know where TzKal-Zuk came from. This change was likely done to keep TzKal-Zuk's lore in Old School RuneScape consistent with his backstory in RuneScape.
  • TzKal-Zuk had a festive override wearing a santa hat during the 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 Christmas events.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  1. ^ The damage roll for Zuk's projectile attack consists of a single roll between 0 and the average of its maximum Magic hit and maximum Ranged hit.[1] The max hit of the mage attack is 128, while the range attack's max hit is 169. The melee max hit is 251, but it is never used.
