ASUS Maximus Formula VIII – RGB Done Right!

We have just gotten a look at the ASUS ROG Maximus Formula VIII, with the best implementation of RGB LEDS we have ever seen on a motherboard. This is RGB Done Right!

Most RGB LED illuminated motherboards suffer from a single glaring issue, that the board itself doesn’t suit any colour other than red, or whatever colour the heatsinks are on the motherboard, which means that very few people will actually use the RGB LEDs to their full potential. From the start we have said that an RGB motherboard needs to have all LEDs change colour and that the motherboard must not have any main colour theme, as that would force a certain colour scheme upon users or force users to start painting or otherwise change the colour of their motherboard.

ASUS has listened and greated a motherboard that not only looks good when their LEDs are red, but looks good regardless of what colour the LEDs are, giving us a nice stealthy look when the LEDs are turned off and highlights of pretty much whatever colour we want when turned on.

If you did not like ASUS’ old Red and black colour scheme you will be happy to know that now you get to choose whatever colour you want, be it red, green blue or hot pink.

The ASUS Maximus VII Formula not only offers us some fantastic options when it comes to lighting, but also the option to water cool the motherboards VRMs and options to connect even ultra fast U.2 devices and pretty much everything else the Intel Z170 platform can allow.

On the VRM heatsink we can see a EKWB logo on the board, showing us that EK has had some design input for ASUS’ hybrid cooled VRMs, assuring that they will perform well under both air and water cooling.

Right now ASUS has not given us the full specifications or the retail price of this motherboard, but we expect to be seeing more of it sometime in the new year.
