The first international teaser trailer for the new Amy Winehouse biopic, Back to Black, is here. Director Sam Taylor-Johnson’s film stars Marisa Abela (who you may recognize from Industry) in the lead role, portraying Winehouse’s ascent from a teenager playing small clubs to a beleaguered, award-winning sensation. The teaser also hints at her tumultuous relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil. Check it out below ahead of the May 10 U.S. release.
Made with the blessing of the Amy Winehouse Foundation, Back to Black follows Amy, Asif Kapaida’s controversial 2015 documentary that addressed the singer’s struggles with addiction before her death from alcohol poisoning in 2011. (Another documentary, Amy Winehouse - Back to Black, concerned the making of the Back to Black album.) The new film was written by Matt Greenhalgh and stars Jack O’Connell, Eddie Marsan, and Lesley Manville.
