Hypogymnia tubulosa

A foliose lichen species with hollow, tubular lobes that resemble wrist bones or fingers. The lobes darken at the tips where the apex becomes covered in soralia.

Cortex: K+ yellow. Medulla and soralia: C-, K-, UV+ pale violet-blue

Hypogymnia tubulosa resembles Hypogymnia physodes, but is distinguished by its tubular and wrist-bone-like, rather than flattened, lobes. Though common, Hypogymnia tubulosa is less omnipresent than Hypogymnia physodes.

Hypogymnia tubulosa appears less resistant to sulphur dioxide pollution than Hypogymnia physodes.
