Until 1993 she was a Lecturer in English Language and Literature in Helsinki University, Finland. She has written over 80 books teaching English as a Foreign language worldwide, mostly for young children, and has won the Duke of Edinburgh Award for an English textbook as well as receiving an M.B.E. from the Queen for "services to English". She has also worked extensively for radio and TV, both as a writer and presenter. Her radio plays have been broadcast in several countries and have won several awards.
