The Canadian actor first joined Hallmark in 2014, starring opposite Meghan Ory in the romance movie The Memory Book. Since then, Macfarlane has appeared in 13 movies, including A Magical Christmas Village, Taking a Shot at Love, and Just Add Romance. His most recent movie, Catch Me if You Claus, premiered on Hallmark on November 23, as part of the network’s Countdown to Christmas event. In it, he stars alongside Italia Ricci as Santa-suited intruder who insists he’s Santa’s son his first Christmas mission.
The year prior, Macfarlane took a big swing with his career. He starred opposite Billy Eichner in the 2022 film Bros, which was the first romantic comedy from a major studio that had an entirely LGBTQ principal cast. The role launched the actor’s career to new heights and fans were worried he wouldn’t return to Hallmark. He had even told the Los Angeles Times during a September 2022 interview, “They’ve been very good to me, but I think I’ve told my story for now with those folks … I mean, how many firefighters can I play?”
However, while discussing Catch Me if You Claus with TV Fanatics in November 2023, Macfarlane had nothing but praise for the network and he spoke positively about his future with Hallmark. “I think everybody’s career is kind of a mystery to them. When I started working for Hallmark, I want to say over ten years ago now, I didn’t know a lot about them. And I feel like it’s such a wonderful addition to all the other things I do,” he said. “As long as they keep having me, I will certainly keep coming and working with them for sure. I love making Hallmark films. I also have to say the cast, crews, directors, and producers I work with have always been some of the most collaborative, open-minded people I’ve worked with.”

Who is Luke Macfarlane’s partner? The actor’s partner is sports agent and former two-time champion alpine skier Hig Roberts. Roberts is originally from Steamboat Springs Colorado, which is where he learned to ski at age 2 and fell in love with the sport. He skied at Middlebury College all four years and was recruited to the U.S. Ski Team B after graduating in 2014. In 2017, Roberts beat Tim Jitloff in the giant slalom to earn his first national title. He won again the following year and was the first alternate for the U.S. team at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Macfarlane and Roberts are very private about their relationship and they haven’t shared any details about they met or when they began dating. They did share a big milestone on Father’s Day 2023, though. The couple welcomed a daughter, Tess Eleanor Macfarlane, on June 4, 2023. In an Instagram post, the Christmas In My Heart star shared several photos from the hospital of him and Roberts holding their newborn daughter. “We started life with some hectic days and received world class care. On Father’s Day we got to take her home. Her Dads can’t wait to introduce her to all the remarkable people and the beautiful world we live in,” he wrote in the caption. Several of his Hallmark co-stars congratulated him on the news in the comments. “Huge congrats Luke! So thrilled for you,” Nikki DeLoach wrote. Bethany Joy-Lenz also commented on the post, writing: “Luuuuke!! You were made for this 🩵🩵🩵 I’m so so happy for you.”
Roberts also posted about Tess’ birth, writing alongside his own carousel of photos: “Tessie girl ❤️— Your entrance into our family has filled our hearts. The light, tenacity, and spirit you immediately showed is a blessing we will forever grasp. We are happy Dads. We love you endlessly T.”
The pair have shared a few rare glimpses into their relationship on social media, and it appears they are a very adventurous and athletic couple. In November 2023, they ran the New York City marathon together in honor of Roberts’ late brother Murphy, who died at age 22 after suffering from a diabetic seizure while on a hike and hitting his head and sustaining a head injury. Roberts shared a series of photos of him and Macfarlane’s impressive feat on Instagram. “I ran (shuffled) with the people I love the most in the world in honor of my brother and for the Type 1 community,” he wrote in part.
Ahead of the race, Macfarlane opened up to People about his relationship with Roberts and being able to run for Murphy. “It’s an honor to recognize Hig’s brother, somebody I never got to meet but somebody that’s so important to Hig and his journey and development … Just to get a chance to honor him and show my love for Hig and his family,” he told the outlet.
He added jokingly, “Hig and I are very competitive with each other so I think we’re going to definitely push each other to achieve the highest possible race time, let’s be honest.”
