SBIG STL-11000m

Posted by srhasan on 13/02/2010

I have recently traded my one shot color QHY8 for SBIG STL-11000m. After a long agonizing wait the pack arrived.  The package was much bigger than what i expected and it weighted a ton. I could straight away realize why a lot of reviewer would say a heavy focuser is a must to mount this camera on a scope. Imaging with a mono camera will be a new territory for me but being a narrow band lover I had to move to a mono from one shot color (OSC).

The box full of goodies

Internal filter wheel allows 5 filters so along the way I might have to get an extra wheel to mount any additional narrow band filters. There is a 8 position filter wheel available but because of the back focus i would rather stay with 5 position filter wheel. First thing that needed to be done was to remove the internal filter wheel cover and install the LRGB filters. In my case I installed Baader LRGB filters in the first 4 slots  and on the 5th slot a Baader 7nm Ha narrow band filter.

I am looking forward to some clear skies to try this camera.
