Introduction

Silentium PC is a company established in 2007 in Warsaw, Poland. Since then they bring high-quality silent PC cases, power supplies and cooling solutions to the market, those products are at a reasonable price. They managed it by spending all their funds on the development of the products and not on aggressive marketing & flashy banners.
The development of the products is focused on user-experience and less on marketing numbers meant to bring overnight profits.

Visual inspection

The Grandis 2 XE1436 model continues the tradition of the previous model, the Grandis XE1236, featuring a dual tower design and a solid build, using high quality materials such as aluminum for the fins and copper for the base and heatpipes. The cooler has a height of 159mm and a width of 130mm.
Two fans accompany the cooler; one 120mm & one 140mm, both belong to the Sigma line.

The heatsink uses 50 aluminum fins, these have overlaying edges, giving the heatsink an elegant look.

The top part maintains the design of the cooler while the metal is painted black. In the middle, we find the manufacturer’s logo also the ends of the heatpipes are covered by metallic caps.

The cooler uses 6 heatpipes each with a diameter of 6mm, these are arranged in a U shape to facilitate heat transfer and dissipation. At the base, a copper plate covers them.

The base of the cooler is made out of copper; it is also brushed and makes direct contact with the six heatpipes. Mounted on the base of the cooler, there is a metallic plate, part of the mounting system, which is held in place with the help of a screw.

The two fans of the cooler are part of the Sigma line: the 120mm fans model Sigma Pro 120mm PWM has a maximum speed of 1600RPM. The cable of the fan is covered entirely by black sleeving, the fan uses a 4-Pin Molex connector.

The 140mm fan, model Sigma PRO 140L PWM, it has a maximum speed of 1000RPM. Just like the 120mm fan, the cable is covered entirely by black sleeving, the fan uses a 4-Pin Molex connector.

Testing

The following system is to test the cooler:
    Processor: Intel i5 4690K @ 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz
–    Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 9 ACK
–    RAM: Crucial Ballistix Tactical 8GB DDR3 @ 2133MHz
–    GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Armor 2X 4G
–    SSD: Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
–    HDD: WD 1TB Blue / Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB
–    PSU: Antec Edge 550W Gold
–    Display: AOC i2769VM
–    Case: Phanteks Enthoo Luxe White
–    Thermal compound: Arctic Cooling MX-4

Software used for testing the cooler:
–    AIDA64 Extreme Version: 5.60.3700 (10/24/2016)
–    Intel Burn Test v2.54
–    Prime95 28.5

The cooler was tested with the CPU at the default turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz and overclocked to 4.5 GHz with a core voltage of 1.187 V.
Also the included fans have been used at their maximum speed.
The room temperature was approximately 26°C (78°F), with 2°C margin of error.
The idle test consists of the CPU sitting idle at the desktop for 30 minutes, the temperature was measured at the end of the test.
The settings of the software used are the following:

Intel Burn Test v2.54 – Stress level: Maximum
Prime95 28.5 – small FFT
AIDA64 Extreme Version – Temperature monitoring.
Each test was conducted for 40 minutes.

The test results are as follows:

Idle

Full Load

The noise level was measured at three different distances from the fans (10cm, 20cm, 30cm.) the noise was measured with a margin of error of ± 5 db.

The space between the DIMM slots and the front fan is approximately 39mm.

Despite the generous size, the cooler does not interfere with the first PCIe x16 slot.

Final thoughts

The Grandis 2 XE 1436 model offers a good performance due to the quality of the two fans, the dual tower design and the six copper heatpipe construction and to the copper base.

The installation process is done with relative ease thanks to the efficient mounting system; also, the user manual is explicit. The only inconvenient of the product is the fact that the 120mm fan covers the RAM slots.

In conclusion, the Grandis 2 XE 1436 model is a cooler, which offers a good performance to price ratio. In addition, the accessory bundle is rich and the manual offers enough information in order to install the cooler, being an aid for the newcomers.

As an improvement for the newer products, I would suggest more attention to details and the finish. The current model has some minor issues.
