Metro 911 says a Charleston Fire Department fire truck crashed Friday morning, injuring a firefighter.

The crash happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Virginia Street West near the fire station.

Metro 911 said the fire truck ran over a firefighter's foot.

Lt. David Hodges said two firefighters were doing routine apparatus checks and raising the cab of the truck to check the motor when the park brake failed.

The firefighter who was hurt tried to stop the truck from rolling forward before it crashed. That firefighter was taken to the hospital and is expected to be ok.

"We have two spare fire engines available. As you see right now, the crews are switching out into a spare right now,” Hodges said at the scene. “It will just be a brief slow down at this fire station. We are completely able to continue to provide service."

The Charleston Fire Department says the incident is under investigation.
