A Guide to the Best Street Art in Columbus Ohio (Map Included!)

I love searching out street art whenever I’m in a new place. A mixture of research ahead of time and stumbling on random pieces is my favorite way to do it. I had a list of Columbus Ohio murals I really wanted to see, but some of my favorites ended up being the ones I didn’t even know about ahead of time.

I keep saying I’m going to put together a street art guide for Nashville because we easily have over 200+ pieces street art in my beloved city, but I simply haven’t wrapped my mind around going around and getting all of the pictures. The good thing about visiting a place is you tend to have a bit more sense of urgency. I didn’t know when I’d be back in Columbus, so I did my best to find as many murals as possible!

Columbus is a very artsy city in general. There are tons of art galleries, sculptures, and plenty of public street art all over the city.

Columbus Ohio Murals

Downtown Columbus

I didn’t have a ton of murals on my list for downtown Columbus. I was walking back to my hotel after a very long day of walking, incredible heat indexes, and I missed where I was supposed to turn. By the time I figured it out, there was no way I was turning around to backtrack.

Now, I’m kicking myself for missing this mural. I actually had no idea it lit up at night. During the day it’s still cool – a black and white mural – but this nighttime version is amazing.

Old North Columbus

I didn’t do much exploring in this neighborhood, but it was on my way to the Clintonville Farmers’ Market from my hotel downtown. There was a small cluster of murals located here that I wanted to see.

This first one – the grim reaper. It’s smaller and fairly simple, but I love it so much that it’s now my phone screen.

I was expecting another mural where I found this one. I was really excited about it, but this one is beautiful as well. It seems there has been a lot of disgruntled people with the murals that have previously existed here. First, a tree mural and then a graffiti style mural. Wonder how they feel about this one?

Short North Arts District

The Short North arts district is definitely full of art – art galleries every other store line the main street, murals, and public art is found on every corner.

I don’t really know if this one had much rhyme or reason but I still liked it a lot. I’m pretty sure it was on the side of an adult bookstore so there’s that too.

Franklinton

Franklinton is located across the river from downtown and I decided to take an early morning walk across the bridge to go find one specific mural. I ended up finding several on my way there which was a pleasant surprise! This history is long here as it is the first settlement in Central Ohio.

I loved this mural below. It’s located off the main road and on the entrance to a parking garage so it’s completely hidden and I just barely noticed it as I was looking at some of the other murals. Curiosity got the best of me and I headed over to see what it was. Not disappointed as I love the message it conveys.

Olde Towne East

I headed over to Olde Towne East to eat breakfast at one of the vegan restaurants in Columbus and was able to get a photo of this mural. Olde Towne East is a neighborhood full of huge, historic, and beautiful homes just begging for you to walk down the streets in awe.

In 2016, a group of teenagers on the Youth Advisory Council of LeaderSpark, a Columbus-based youth leadership organization, attended 17 funerals of young people killed in the city. The kids decided to create this mural to represent rebirth and growth during trying times.

Southern Orchards

I had some time to spare before I headed to Two Dollar Radio Headquarters – one of the delicious all vegan restaurants in Columbus and I really wanted to go grab a photo of this mural below. It ended up being a longer walk than I anticipated and the heat was already insane early in the morning, but I got it!

Columbus Ohio Murals Overview

I was only there for a couple of days so I know this isn’t anywhere near a complete guide to all of the murals in Columbus. There were so many I didn’t make it to and so many more that I’m sure I don’t even know about. But, that’s the beauty of it – I’ll just have to return to find more murals in Columbus.

Wow!! The murals of Columbus are really not disappointing! They look just awesome in a photo, but I’m sure that in real life they must be like out of this world! I would love if I had the chance to go and admire this street art!

PD: My favorite one was the one with the reaper telling that we need to live our lives because she is coming!

“Ignite the Fire of Kindness” looks like artist Stephanie Rond’s work.

Thank you so much! I’m going to update it with this info until someone tells me otherwise! 🙂

    Hi Ashley,
I loved the mural piece. I noticed you included my son’s mural- DREAM TOGETHER-
He has done several since and also has some at Easton Town Center. You can find more of his art on his website and Facebook. All of the art in Columbus is impressive. It’s a very artsy town, with CCAD, and surrounding areas. Karen Jarvis.
