Indigenous American West Coast Haida Styled Carved & Polychrome Painted Totem

This folk art carved and polychrome painted totem pole is signed by an unknown artist and originated from the United States and dates to 1985 and done in a West Coast Haida style. The totem is composed of cedar and is hand-carved with stylized animals and hand-painted in vibrant colors. This totem pole or sculpture has a 'Made in Alaska" label on the back, and clearly signed on the base by "Raven" the artist.

The pole depicts an inverted killer whale, although the identities of the other figures are unclear. There is a formline human face in profile carved in relief and painted on the front of the base. A rather unusual feature of this pole is the inlaid glass beads in the eyes of the figures and blowhole of the whale.
