Baumkircher, Andreas, Freiherr von Schlaining© Copyright Andreas Baumkircher, epitaph, Oberwart Castle, Burgenland Baumkircher, Andreas, Baron of Schlaining, b. probably Vipava, Slovenia (then Wippach), around 1420, d. Graz (Styria), April 23, 1471 (decapitated), mercenary leader. 1452 defended Wiener Neustadt against refractory nobles; 1468, however, was instrumental in an uprising of Styrian nobles against Emperor Friedrich III, supported by the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus.
