Baumkircher, Andreas, Baron of Schlaining, b. probably Vipava, Slovenia (then Wippach), around 1420, d. Graz (Styria), April 23, 1471 (decapitated), mercenary leader. 1452 defended Wiener Neustadt against refractory nobles; 1468, however, was instrumental in an uprising of Styrian nobles against Emperor Friedrich III, supported by the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus.
