Jessica Alba is one of a growing number of celebrities who have successfully expanded their list of talents beyond entertainment to include beauty expertise. For Alba, her brand Honest Beauty has turned the actor into a clean skin-care and makeup maven (not to mention a hugely successful entrepreneur), but from the looks of a new YouTube video, it seems she's ready to tackle hairstyling, too.

Alba apparently spent the weekend playing stylist for her kids. In the new video posted to her YouTube channel, she explains that a DIY school-picture session for eldest daughter, 11-year-old Honor, led to haircuts for the whole family. "It was inspired because Honor has her school pictures because of sheltering in place and social distancing. The teachers have asked us to take — it's sort of like senior pictures, but for sixth grade," Alba says. "I trimmed her hair, blended it, gave her a little layers."

But Alba is the first to admit it wasn't easy. "I bow down to hairdressers," she says. "I mean that is really not easy at all, especially with impatient kids who are not trying to sit still."

Luckily, Alba had a little long-distance help from significantly more experienced hairstylist Jen Atkin, who guided her through her kids' haircuts via video chat. You can sense the saint-like patience in Atkin's voice as she tells Alba, "Try not to cut too much from the very end. Up high, keep it up high. And you're gonna go up, up, up. Scissors should be angled the other way but you're good, you did it," as she's cutting Honor's hair.

Once Alba was done with Honor's cut — and after cutting her own fingers several times in the process — she sprayed Honor's hair with Innersense Hair Love Prep Spray before giving her a blowout with the Dyson Supersonic. She then used a curling iron to create loose waves.

Alba shared the results — Honor's new school pictures — and she did a fantastic job for a haircutting newbie. But the final verdict was definitely decided by Honor: "Mom curled it for me, and I really like it 'cause it has layers." A primo compliment from a tween if we've ever heard one.
