When I received this item I tried to screw it onto the back of my lx200 and noticed immediately it wouldnt screw on because the threads on the filter were slightly smaller than the threads on the back of the scope. Not like it would be stripped if i tried, but the threads on the filter didnt even touch the threads on the back of the scope(and the same with any 2" adapter i tried). I have other 2" items like a couple of focal reducers and various 2" adapters that screw on fine. Does orion not measure the same 2" as meade? The 1.25" orion web cam thing i have fits fine in my meade 1.25" adapter. Am I missing something here? I guess I received a lemon. It almost seems like the male and female threads were "machined" on the wrong ends of the metal casing that surrounds the glass. I went ahead and gave it 4 stars since i was able to return it with no issues.

Bought this filter used. I recommend you buy filters new . This one came flopping around in its housing but I repaired it and it works pretty good.
Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2015
I used the filter on several occasions to image H-alpha nebulae (North America, Elephant trunk, Cocoon, Wizard, Bubble etc) with 80 mm triplet and modified DSLR. The filter is the most effective with full spectrum cameras. I used it under moderately dark sky. It cut about a half of light coming from broadband sources like stars but let all photons from emission nebulae to come through. It does not screw up the color of the stars, indeed, exactly as advertised. Although it is not a silver bullet against light pollution, it does help to increase signal-to-noise ratio when imaging emission nebulae. It should not be used to image galaxies, star clusters and reflection nebulae. Overall, I highly recommend this filter.

Very useful for photographing from my suburban backyard. Gives pretty natural colors and allows for much longer exposures as long as the tracking is good. I attach this to a field flattener and use a DSLR with and 80mm refractor. I have not modified my DSLR to pass most of the H-alpha part of the spectrum. Therefore, I've had best results for nebula with color - like the Ring or Dumbbell Nebulae. I'm sure it would work even better with a modded DSLR or CCD.

I screwed this thing onto my 2" camera adapter and just don't take it off. It stays on my photography rig and works for most anything.

Used this for many photographic images - works extremely well in light polluted suburban areas with minimal exposure changes

1.0 out of 5 stars 2" filter has nonstandard filter threads and jams
Reviewed in Canada on October 10, 2019
I'm not happy AT ALL, on a couple of points.

1. The return window for my filter is said to be closed.
2. I Just this evening had good astrophotography conditions AND opportunity to fit it to my field flattener and set my scope outside to cool.

The threads do not fit. I can screw it on to my Hotech FF about 1/4 turn, and that's it. After that it jams. I did a search on Cloudy Nights and discovered that others have had this issue as well. Apparently a problem with the thread spec. My Baader filters screw on just fine, but the Orion does not. Will it fall off in the winter cold? I have no idea and I don't want to deal with it - there's no mystery about thread specs and if Orion picks a 2" thread spec that is proprietary, they should say so up front. Unacceptable.

What makes this worse is that the Skyglow filter has a very good reputation for handling light pollution and preserving colors. So it might perform well tonight, providing it doesn't fall off, jam further as it cools, or wreck the threads on my Hotech.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works, but..
Reviewed in Canada on December 12, 2018
2018-12-12 Works fairly well, but the plastic retaining ring inside pops off a few threads when it gets cold outside as it cools off at a different rate then the metal. Not very handy in colder weather. Waiting to hear back if they will provide a fix for the plastic retaining ring.
----------------------------
Update 2018-12-27 Received replacement filter from Orion. Will be checking later, in the meantime, bumping up to 5 stars for service and working.
----------------------------
Update 2019-12-21 Replacement filter, during a recent cold spell with lovely clear nights did the same thing. Anyone know where you can get a METAL retaining ring for locking this thing down?

1.0 out of 5 stars this filter has fallen apart
Reviewed in Canada on March 28, 2021
this filter is garbage , the glass is only held in by a cheap plastic ring, at this price it should have been a aluminum threaded ring , over time the plastic retainer has shrunk and won’t hold the filter glass in place
