From Emily R. King, author of the Hundredth Queen series, comes an epic novel of ancient Greece, Titans and treachery, and the women who dare to rise up against the tyranny of the Golden Age.
My mother told me that men would speak about the Golden Age as a time of peace and happiness for all… However, the women of our age would tell a very different story…
Cronus, God of Gods, whose inheritance is the world. Among his possessions: women, imprisoned and fated to serve. The strong-minded Althea Lambros controls her own fate and lives to honor her dying mother’s plea to protect her two sisters at all costs. Althea’s journey toward crushing the tyranny has begun. It is a destiny foretold by the Fates. And she is following their visions.
On the southern isle of Crete, hidden among mortal women who have fled the Titans, is the Boy God, son of Cronus and believed dead. He shares Althea’s destiny to vanquish the Almighty―fate willing. Because Cronus has caught wind of the plot. He’s amassing his own forces against Althea’s righteous rebellion and all those who will no longer surrender or run. There will be war. If she’s to survive to write their history, the indomitable Althea must soar higher than any god.

“Sharp prose and smart characters…King (Hundredth Queen series) takes a fresh look at the Greek pantheon to create a clamor for the next book of this new series.” ―Library Journal

Outside of that, I loved the storyline and twists. King did a good job creating a heroine that others can love and root for.
Really enjoyed this one, and it was a nice easy read with a good pace.
The story in a setting during the time of Titans in Greek mythology, leads in a direction where a woman will help a young man unseat a ruthless ruler. Her journey leads her to find her true self. In some ways, though, I wish she had been successful as a mortal woman. The backdrop of inaccurate Greek mythology doesn't bother me at all, because this is fantasy and the author can do with it what she wants. She writes a creative story about the struggles of the protagonist that are relatable.
Being an older woman still in the workplace, I related to this story as I must continue to fight everyday for my position, being respected, and to be heard. Because I stand my ground, men refer to me as a "_itch" and I always counter with "do not mistake my strength for something negative." I am not trying to be a "feminist" or trying to impose my attitudes on anyone else. I am simply living in a world where many men despise a women's strength, and where women still are afraid of a man's reaction if they don't tiptoe around their testosterone. I think King's character, Althea is stating the same. She just wants to live her life as herself, with the same rights and freedom as others. Sad that after 2000 years of civilization, humanity has not evolved very much.
The story is creative, descriptive, and captivating. I love the characters and their struggles. I will read the next in the installment.
Love for each other and their mother. Loved Zeus and Theo. They finally showed their resl selves and fought the Godfather of gods together.
Positives: The book is a fast-paced and action-packed adventure that explores themes of feminism, freedom, and destiny. The author creates a vivid and immersive world of ancient Greece, with rich details and mythology. The characters are well-developed and complex, each with their own motivations and flaws. The romance between Althea and the Boy God is sweet and passionate, with a hint of forbidden love.
Negatives: The book is not very original or surprising, as it follows a typical YA fantasy formula of a chosen one, a prophecy, a rebellion, and a love triangle. The plot is sometimes predictable and convenient, with some deus ex machina moments and coincidences. The writing style is simple and straightforward, but lacks some depth and nuance.

I am a huge Greek mythology fan, and this book surpassed my expectations. Althea is a dauntless heroine that should be aspiring to all young women.
I can’t speak too much on this book without giving any of it away. But I will say that it’s extremely well written. You can tell that Emily R King did immense research on the mythology before writing it. This will forever be on of my top favourites.
Have to say mythology is still not my thing but I can't wait to read the follows on book. Hope it's as good as this one.
Three sisters Cleora, Bronte and Althea despise the God
Cronus (known for eating his children) and for treating females as inferior. Cronus is also responsible for the death of their mother Stavra as he got her pregnant and she died following the birth of a half Titan. Cronus sends one of his soldiers to retrieve the baby girl and the soldier brands Althea with an ownership mark vowing to return for her when she is of age.
When Althea is 18 she attends the town market and visits oracles, who tell her her fate and that she must find the Son of Cronus who has been hidden from him as he is the key to his downfall.
Althea journeys with Theo, a soldier who assisted her and her sister Bronte following Cleora’s capture and they encounter the boy god Zeus. Their travels have them meeting many of the gods - Helios, Selene, Eos who try and help them in their task of defeating Cronus.
There is always a twist and nothing is ever as it seems as the pull that Althea has had inside her has a greater explanation than she could ever have imagined.
A fascinating story of the Greek gods that kept me intrigued. I’m looking forward to reading book 2.
