Riccardo Tisci, Italian fashion designer and the new creative head of British fashion house, Burberry — he replaced Christopher Bailey — has kicked off his stint in spectacular style just 5 months into his job. The designer, credited with Givenchy's revival, released a brand new logo and monogram for ‘Burberry London England' on August 2. Tisci reached out to art director, graphic designer and, in Tisci's own words, “one of our generation's greatest design geniuses,” Peter Saville to give the iconic Burberry logo a fresher, younger reboot. The new logo arrives after recent media reports highlighted Burberry burning unsold clothing stock worth $32 million in order to protect its brand against counterfeiters.

Burberry Spirit: Bold and Pioneering

His collaboration with Burberry was first teased on the brand's official Instagram account – email conversations, about the new logo between Tisci and Saville were released, against a bright orange backdrop were released. The brief to Saville, as disclosed by the emails, was inspired by Tisci's visit to the Burberry archives – in particular, a 1908 logo and a Thomas Burberry monogram. The result? A black-and-white logo that's definitely more contemporary, if (as detractors pointed) a little less memorable. The aforementioned bright orange had little to do with the monochromatic logo but was definitely a clue, in retrospect. The label unveiled a new pattern of interlocking Ts and Bs that pays homage to the founder whose colour scheme featured the same hue.

Peter Saville has already worked on redesigning Calvin Klein's all-lowercase-everything logo with creative director Raf Simons, steering the future of the brand in a new direction.

Beyonce Breaks the Internet in a Burberry Bodysuit

Tisci is now gearing up to present his first collection for the luxury brand in September, a show that the global fashion industry will be looking at very closely. Especially since his first big move will have been to retire the iconic, well-loved plaid pattern that became synonymous with Burberry fashion. If Riccardo's Instagram posts were to be seen as a teaser for the direction he wants to steer the brand toward, then his latest featuring Beyonce is one that fashionistas and fashion critics need to take copious notes on. The plaid pattern that is so ubiquitous on Burberry trench coats and rain gear was seen in a wholly streetwear-inspired avatar on Beyonce, who's currently setting the stage on fire with her On the Run II world tour. The singer wore a Burberry bodysuit, cropped jacket, and thigh-high boots done in the label's vintage check pattern. This also doesn't happen to be the first time that Beyonce has pranced around in a Burberry. Check her out in a Burberry bra and leggings in the same plaid pattern in Apes**t, from her recently released Everything is Love album.
