Ammannia crassicaulis (formerly Neaea crassicaulis) comes from Africa and is a beautiful, highly recommended aquarium plant, although it does require some light. The height is about 30-50cm.
The leaves are reddish brown, cognac in color. Ammannia crassicaulis grows best in soft and slightly acidic water. Make sure that the lower leaves also receive sufficient light, otherwise they will die.
To propagate the plant, stems can be cut off and the tops can be put back into the substrate. Side shoots will also be formed.
Note: This plant is very different in its above-water form (as it is grown) than when it grows underwater. The large, fresh green leaves will slowly transform into more elongated leaves that can turn deep red in color. So feel free to place it in the aquarium, so that it can transform into a beautiful plant like in the photo.
