2001 Audi RS4 B5

Steffoz
Gävle
Basic Information & Background
This is an opportunity to buy a real sleeper that looks to be completely stock but which in fact is something completely different. With an engine upgraded by Dahlbäck Racing themselves, it now leaves over 500 horsepower.

The first generation RS4, also named the B5 was manufactured between the years 1999-2001. It only came as an estate version and was intended as a successor to the Audi RS2, which was a bit of a test project together with Porsche.

Audi manufactured 6,030 RS4 B5s between 1999-2001, which makes it relatively rare today. And it is the combination of being a still practical estate car, high power, muscular design, and all-weather performance that makes this model attractive on the market today.

This example was imported from Italy on 2012-08-29. It has had an engine transplant after a critical failure to the original engine and comes with new meter housings and electronics.

Work was performed by the previous owner and there is no information about who performed the work. The engine and exhaust system were donated from a car previously tuned by the legendary Dahlback Racing.

A complete system from Ferrita was also removed from the donation car due to the fact that the original exhaust systems had a common manufacturing fault where the catalysts became too hot that the exhaust chambers became overheated, which meant that the engine got too poorly lubricated. This meant that many RS4s had their engines replaced.

The engine in the RS4 B5 is a V6 with a twin-turbo developed together with Cosworth and produced in standard tune 381 horsepower and 440nm of torque. This made the RS4 one of the fastest cars on the road regardless of category. A 6-speed manual gearbox was connected to the powerplant and Audis Torsen based Quattro four-wheel drive with 50/50 power distribution provided the recipe for Audi's classic all-weather muscle combi.

Due to the fact that the engine has a relatively low state of tune sin stock form, a large proportion of these cars today are upgraded to a higher power output. This is also the case with this car, which in the current state leaves about 500-550 reliable horsepower. The work is performed by the well-known Swedish tuning company Dahlbäck Racing.

Summary
B5 RS4 has today already achieved classic status and the values are steadily increasing. The recipe is a car that can be used every day, provide a large shot of adrenaline while being rare enough to attract collectors. Low-mileage original cars are soon starting to become too valuable to use, therefore this example is an interesting alternative with its relatively low-mileage engine but where the lack of matching numbers rather makes this more of a great driver enthusiast car intended to be used rather than a collectors car to be put away. We think its a really cool car!
