TRIAL: Patrick Kanyuka With Union During Open Practice

Since the trade of Danny Califf, the Philadelphia Union have had little depth between the starting back line and a patchwork defense.

The team has brought in a few players, including former American youth internationals Andreas Chronis and Christian Ibeagha, to fill depth positions that have either gone unfilled or without able bodies.

Devoid of height - the current starting back four of Sheanon Williams, Carlos Valdes, Amobi Okugo and Gabriel Farfan averages only 5-foot, 10-inches - the Union have searched for someone to pair with Valdes in lieu of starting Okugo or fellow back up center back Porfirio Lopez for the rest of the season.

At last night's open team practice it appeared that the Union were still pursuing a tall defender as fans noticed that Pat Kanyuka was among those present on the field.

Kanyuka was formerly of Tamworth in England's Conference National, the fifth division across the pond, and also played at Queens Park Rangers (when they below the Championship, the second division), Swindon Town and Northampton Town (both in lower English divisions), CFR Cluj and Unirea Alba Iulia in Romania, along with Lincoln City.

The 24-year-old Congolese born Englishman was last seen on trial with Chivas USA on March 28 and hasn't been under contract with any team since leaving Tamworth in late January.
