Will the LDV Maxus V70 people mover come to Australia?

The V70’s design has some familiar elements, though not necessarily through similarity with other LDV vans.

Chinese car conglomerate SAIC has revealed the Maxus V70 people mover in its home country, where it used the Maxus brand name instead of LDV as is the case in Australia.

The Maxus V70 is a van-based people mover, which is reportedly available in five, six, and nine-seat layouts, and is about the same size as the LDV G10 commercial van.

Details are scarce, with SAIC’s websites providing little information, but Chinese auto media such as CarNewsChina have published details they’ve been provided including drivetrain and dimension specifications.

The V70 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine that makes 93kW and transfers power via a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

The van’s length, width, and height dimensions are 4998mm/2030mm/2035mm, putting it at only just smaller than the LDV G10 commercial van currently on sale in Australia, with the V70 sporting a wheelbase of 3000mm, about 20cm shorter than the G10.

Keyless entry, heated seats, push-button start, and an electronic handbrake are all standard features.

Though an Australian specification of the V70 van doesn’t exist, it’s not entirely off the cards.

CarsGuide contacted LDV’s Australian importer and was told that, while it’s “aware of that vehicle and [assesses] every vehicle that is available to us in right-hand drive”, there’s currently “nothing official to confirm at this stage”.
