Tiny-but-mighty camera features 10 megapixels and 3X zoom
Nikon's palm-sized Coolpix S230 slips easily into a pocket or purse, but it's loaded with technology to help you capture stunning pictures. Take detailed photos of vacation highlights, parties, and everyday family fun — the 10-megapixel image sensor gives you plenty of resolution for cropping and enlarging key sections of your pictures. And 3X optical zoom lets you move in close to your subjects for natural-looking candid shots.

Take great "people shots," even in tricky lighting situations
Snap clear group photos with precise focus on each person thanks to the S230's face priority mode and automatic red-eye correction. Portraits of your relatives at a family reunion will reveal each individual expression in sharp detail. Use the high sensitivity setting when you shoot in low-light conditions, like in a museum or outdoors at dusk. And if a shot still turns out too dark, Nikon's D-Lighting technology automatically enhances the underexposed portions of your photo while leaving the properly exposed areas intact.

Touch Panel LCD Monitor: The Nikon Coolpix S230 features a 3.0-inch High Resolution Touch Panel LCD monitor that enables easy access to all the camera controls without the conventional buttons to push. The anti-reflection coating that is applied to the Touch Panel enhances viewing even in bright light. The 3.0-inch Touch Panel LCD monitor features approximately 230,000 pixels and offers a five-level brightness adjustment. The LCD monitor's 170-degree wide viewing angle makes it easy to see and use. The LCD monitor has approximately 97% horizontal and vertical coverage in the shooting mode and 100% horizontal and vertical coverage in playback mode.

Note: There is no separate viewfinder on the camera.

10.0 Megapixels CCD With EXPEED Engine: The Coolpix S230 features a 1/2.3-inch, high-density CCD imager with a total pixel count of approximately 10.34-million pixels. The effective pixel count is 10.0-million. Optimizing performance and color reproduction is an advanced new image-processing engine, EXPEED.

Optics: The Coolpix S230 digital camera uses a Zoom-Nikkor glass lens for superb image quality. Every aspect of the lens manufacturing process is controlled by Nikon. The Zoom-Nikkor lens is designed for the specific camera and CCD combination. The Coolpix S230 uses a 3x optical zoom (35-105mm), 4x digital zoom lens (12x total zoom) that is equivalent to a 35-420mm lens in 35mm photography.

4-Way VR (Vibration Reduction) Stabilization: The Nikon Coolpix S230 offer a 4-Way Vibration Reduction (VR) Stabilization System.

  • Electronic VR Image Stabilization: Nikon's Electronic VR Image Stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake by adjusting shutter speed and ISO setting This produces clearer, sharper results in lower lighting or unsteady conditions.
  • Motion Detection: Motion Detection automatically detects moving subjects and adjusts the shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for camera shake and subject movement.
  • High ISO 2000: High ISO 2000 capability gives you sharper results when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects. This creates new opportunities to take sharper, more natural-looking photos in lower light conditions.
  • Best Shot Selector (BSS): Nikon's Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically takes up to 10 shots while the shutter is pressed and then saves the sharpest image.

Built-in Memory: The camera has a built-in 44 MB internal memory for storing still images and movies with sound.

Optional Recording Media: In addition to the built-in memory, images can be recorded onto SD (Secure Digital) or SDHC Memory cards.
