Anne-Marie Duff is the best supporting wife as she watches husband James McAvoy's opening night of The Ruling Class

James McAvoy has teamed up with his Macbeth director Jamie Lloyd in the new West End production of The Ruling Class.

So when it came the play's gala performance, it was the Scots star's wife Anne-Marie Duff who was front and centre as he took to the stage.

The actress, 44, joined a host of stars at the launch night of the Peter Barnes play at the Trafalgar Studios on Wednesday night.

The former Shameless star wore her heart on her chest with a silver heart-print jumper and black trousers as she celebrated her husband's success at the after-party at the Bankside Vaults following the performance.

Joining Anne-Marie at the theatre were stars from the world of stage and screen, including seasoned thespian Simon Callow.

Also in attendance was Inbetweeners star Blake Harrison, comedienne Ronnie Ancona, ex-EastEnder Nigel Harman, Gavin & Stacey star Mathew Horne, Ashes To Ashes actor Daniel Mays and Little Dorrit actress Claire Foy.

The 1968 satire stars James as Jack Gurney, a paranoid schizophrenic who becomes the 14th Earl of Gurney after the previous earl dies.

The new production is the first time the play has been performed in the West End since the original production in 1969.

The play was famously adapted into a 1972 film starring Peter O'Toole as Gurney.

The new production sees James reunited with Jamie, who famously directed him in the 2013 production of Macbeth, which was so gory some audience members fainted during the show.

The after-party was a rare public appearance together for James and Anne-Marie, who juggle their busy acting career with bringing up their four-year-old son Brendan.

The couple famously met on the set of Channel 4 drama Shameless before marrying in 2006.

The Ruling Class is at London's Trafalgar Studios until April 11.
