Norah Jones to release new album ‘Visions’ in March

The dark, dramatic single ‘Running,’ out now, boasts an electronic dance vibe.

Grapevine native Norah Jones has announced a March 8 release date for her new album, Visions.

It’s the singer-keyboardist’s ninth solo studio album in a career that began with a bang in 2002, when she released Come Away With Me, which sold 27 million copies worldwide and won six Grammys, including for album, song and record of the year.

Unlike the mellow jazz-folk of her debut album, Visions carries forward the eclectic sound Jones has pursued over the years. The dark, dramatic new single “Running” boasts an electronic dance vibe.

She collaborated on the album with producer Leon Michels, a sax player who’s performed with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, and Dan Auerbach.

“I like the rawness between me and Leon, the way it sounds kind of garage-y but also kind of soulful, because that’s where he’s coming from, but also not overly perfected,” Jones said in a statement. The album’s 12 original songs arose from jam sessions between her and Michels, she said.

Jones, who graduated from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, will tour the U.S. beginning in May, but no Texas shows have been announced yet. Until they are, you can hear her perform with the likes of Mavis Staples, Dave Grohl and Dallas harmonica ace Mickey Raphael on her podcast Norah Jones Is Playing Along.
