*You will need a filtered Shortwave (SW 254 nm) UV light in order to see the orange fluorescence shown in the pictures. A longwave (LW 365 nm) light will still show a decent green and orange fluorescence, but not as bright.*
*Regular black lights will usually NOT show fluorescence at all*
*Please keep in mind that the higher the UV light's wattage is, the brighter the fluorescent reaction will be*
This super cool specimen contains red daylight willemite (also called troostite), calcite, and franklinite.

Origin: Sterling Hill mine in Ogdensburg, NJ.
Willemite: red/brown under daylight, fluoresces bright green under SW/LW UV light.
Calcite: white/grey under daylight, fluoresces bright orange under SW/LW UV light.
Franklinite: black under daylight, non fluorescing under UV light.
This specimen was photographed using a 36 watt shortwave ultraviolet lamp, and a Convoy C8 longwave UV flashlight. The pictures have not been retouched.
Shortwave lamps have a range of 200-280 nm. (254 nm are recommended)
Longwave lights have a spectrum of 315-400 nm and are also called UVA. (365 are recommended)
