Charlize Theron has spoken about several of her life choices, including why she's never wanted to get married, in a revealing new interview.

Despite society healthily moving away - at a steady pace - from age-old expectations and sexist tropes when it comes to women's lives, there are still many pressures and assumptions. So it continues to be refreshing when a high-profile woman speaks frankly about why she hasn't decided to follow old narratives.

Speaking to Howard Stern on his SirusXM show, the Bombshell actor - who has never been married and is mother to two adopted children Jackson and August - was responding to questions from Stern about her personal life when she said: 'I've never wanted to get married. That's never been something that's important to me.'

The actor also clarified old reports that she was engaged to her ex-boyfriend Sean Penn, who she dated from 2014 to 2015: 'That's not true. I did not almost get married to Sean, that's such bullsh*t.

'We dated and then we didn't date anymore. It was a relationship for sure, we were definitely exclusive. It was for barely a year, it was for barely a year, he never moved in, I was never going to marry him, it was nothing like that.'

When pressed by Stern, who somewhat irritatingly suggested that she wants a 'love in her life' as 'you get lonely as a woman', Theron responded by saying her children are enough.

'I have two great little loves of my life right now. Life is filled with love... I have never been lonely, I have never felt alone.

'My life right now doesn't allow room for something like that [a romantic relationship] to happen... but there's not this need that drives me [to find romance]. I don't know if I'll ever be able to live with someone else again, to be perfectly frank they might have to buy the house next to me because I don't know if I'm going to be able to f***ing deal with that ever again. I'm too old for that sh*t.'

For anyone wondering (*cough* Howard Stern), we'd say Theron spelled it out pretty clearly there.
