Original Title:

Hot Chick, The

Even by the unexacting standards of gender-bender and high school comedies, this patchwork of scraps - the old body switcheroo, the odd kid brother, the fallback on fat, ethnic, homosexual and urination jests etc. - is very stupid, including the cameo from exec. producer Adam Sandler as a dreadlocked stoner.

Schneider at no time acts like a real teenage girl trapped inside a man, instead mincing around like a bad drag queen.

That said, he has his Britney dance moves down, and possesses an irrepressible likeability that rescues this affair from utter reprehensibility. Scary Movie survivor Faris is also sweet as Jessica's best friend, and it's cute that they go to the prom together. But it would have been better if the body swappers weren't so obnoxious to begin with.

When a paedophiliac priest joke gets the biggest laugh, you know we've crossed the border from desperation into downright hysteria.

It starts badly but actually perks up despite one's better judgement. Or maybe after such a God-awful start, the rest just seems much better in comparison. Whatever.
