Coleus amboinicus (Plectranthus amboinicus) is a semi-succulent perennial plant in the family Lamiaceae with a pungent oregano-like flavor and odor, used as a spice and ornamental plant.
Common names in English include Indian borage, country borage, French thyme, Indian mint, Mexican mint, Cuban oregano, soup mint, and Spanish thyme.
Cuban oregano is an ideal starter plant because it’s so easy to care for.
You will receive two fresh cuttings of Cuban oregano about 4-8 inches long. Place the cutting in the water. Keep it in indirect sunlight. Change the water every two days. Within two to four weeks, you should see new root growth at the bottom of the cutting as in pic#3.
Cuban oregano prefers sandy well-drained soil. Allow the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings, and you’ll have a happy plant.
If you grow this plant outdoors, you can water it rarely or often it doesn't matter. Cuban Oregano is a tender, sprawling herb that is widely cultivated in tropical regions (zones 9-11)
This plant grows to between one and three feet tall and spreads about two to three feet, although it might not grow as quickly indoors as it would outside.
Do not confuse this Cuban oregano (Coleus amboinicus / Plectranthus amboinicus) with the Vicks plant (Plectranthus tomentosa). Look carefully at the last photo. On the left is Cuban oregano, and on the right is Vicks. You see different leaves and they have different smells.
