Yesterday (February 15th, 2022) came the announcement that popular horror game, Dead by Daylight, will be getting another chapter added to its story; perhaps the scariest one yet...
Sadako Rising will be available to play via Dead by Daylight next month (March, 2022); the addition sees a dark, haunting presence rear its head above the murky waters and into the game.
Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer action-horror game, where users essentially play hide and seek; every match is set in a different terrifying place, challenging players each time.
Within each round, one player from the group will become the Killer, out to murder any living soul you find; the other players’ goal is to escape by any means necessary.
The upcoming chapter takes inspiration from Kōji Suzuki’s novel Ringu, and the original film adaptation.
Sadako Rising is the game’s 23rd addition, and is set to feature new Killer Sadako, and new Survivor, Yoichi Asakawa, the only protagonist of the Ringu franchise who hasn’t lost their life to Sadako's vengeful ways.
Dave Richard, Creative Director of Dead by Daylight, states that “Ringu introduces psychological horror to our game, which is very different from the slasher style our fans are used to. They can expect Sadako to come with creepy and surprising gameplay mechanics that are not found in other Killers. Survivors beware, she will freak you out!”
As she crawls painfully slowly out of her well to stalk and haunt her victims, Sadako, known in the game as The Onryō, hides in the shadows to strike when the time is right, and will definitely keep the players on their toes.
Sadako has a great power, something completely new; this, along with her dangerous temper, is something players will need to be aware of in the new chapter.
“I am very honoured that this very iconic horror character from Japan will step into the Fog. Sadako, with her long black hair and white dress, is a tragic woman, beautiful and dignified, yet she pulls you into her quiet terror,” said Reiko Imayasu, producer for the Kadokawa Corporation.
New Survivor, Yoichi Asakawa, must once again face Sadako’s rage in this thrilling and terrifying new chapter.
Asakawa has faced this villain before; he was introduced into the Ringu franchise in the 1998 movie, and is the only person to have ever survived Sadako’s demonic rage.
Sadako Rising is a chance for fans of the film franchise to see what happened to Asakawa after his ordeal in the movie 20 years ago; he is now a marine biologist, but his new life is put on hold as Sadako doesn’t seem to be finished with him just yet...
Sadako Rising releases on March 8th, 2022 on Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games Store, Windows Store, as well as Nintendo Switch and Stadia.
