At Benson FIAT, we have had a lot of Greer, SC customers ask us, "Where are FIAT cars made?" They also want to know, "Who makes FIAT cars?" Many are surprised to know that the real question is, "What cars are made by FIAT?"

That's because, while having a small FIAT brand presence in the US, FIAT is actually one of the largest automakers in the world. Brands like Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM are all owned by FIAT. So are Italian luxury brands like Alfa Romeo and Maserati.

As you can see, FIAT makes some of America's top brands, as well as desirable luxury vehicles and exotic sports cars. But where are they made? Since when did FIAT buy Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and RAM? We're going to take a look at the history of FIAT's domination of the auto industry, as well as where FIAT's vehicles are made across brands.

Benson FIAT is part of a dealer network covering many of FIAT's top brands. So whether you're shopping the FIAT vehicles at Benson FIAT, their luxury Alfa Romeo vehicles at Benson Alfa Romeo, or the supremely popular CDJR vehicles at Benson CDJ, you'll be getting the same renowned Benson service. As a local, family-owned dealership, we are proud to provide the latest FCA (FIAT Chrysler Automobiles) vehicles to our South Carolina customers.

FIAT & Chrysler - The Perfect Match

The financial crisis in 2008 affected everybody, and some of the hardest hit were auto manufacturers. Many brands disappeared, and Chrysler was forced to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2009. At the time, Chrysler also manufactured Dodge, Jeep, and RAM vehicles. Coming out of bankruptcy, FIAT had acquired a partial stake in Chrysler. Over the next five years, FIAT went from a minority stakeholder to full owner of Chrysler Automobiles.

In 2014, it was announced that FIAT and Chrysler would merge into FCA, further divided into FCA USA and FCA Italy. The new organization immediately got to work producing new models, refreshing existing models, and bringing the iconic Alfa Romeo brand to the US. And while some were worried about FIAT's acquisition of Chrysler, it has been an incredible partnership. While on the business side, FCA has seen huge increases in both sales and profits, there have been many benefits for American workers and buyers as well.

In a time of uncertainty for American manufacturing, FCA has invested Billions of dollars in US manufacturing facilities. This has created thousands of jobs, and also resulted in the creation of new and updated models for South Carolina drivers to enjoy. From the all-new Jeep Wrangler & RAM 1500, to the upcoming Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, FIAT Chrysler's investments in American manufacturing have paid off for drivers of FCA vehicles.

With its bold business moves and smart investments, FCA has made sure that it makes some of the most popular, attractive vehicles on the market today. Much of this success has been credited to CEO Sergio Marchionne, who sadly passed away on July 25, 2018. Despite the loss of their superstar Chief Executive, FCA has continued to make big advances in design, sales, and performance. Below, we're going to look at where FIAT Chrysler's diverse portfolio of vehicles are made.

Where Are FIAT Chrysler Vehicles Made?

FIAT Chrysler is truly a global brand, with manufacturing facilities around the world. As mentioned above, FIAT Chrysler Automobiles is divided between FCA Italy and FCA USA. We're going to look at which vehicles are made in North America, and which are made abroad in FCA's Italian facilities. And while FIAT has many vehicles exclusive to Europe and other markets, we will be focused on models available to our South Carolina customers.

Vehicles Made by FCA Italy

After merging with Chrysler, FCA updated its Italian facilities to provide a consistent manufacturing process across all of its brands, whether produced in the US or Italy. That means more reliability and feature availability for its FIAT, Alfa Romeo, and Maserati brands. But it's not just Italian-branded vehicles like Maserati that are made in FCA Italy's factories. Let's take a look at the American-market vehicles made by FIAT in Italy.

Alfa Romeo Giulia & Stelvio - The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio are luxury sport vehicles, offering high performance and premium luxury. They can be equipped with Ferrari Quadrifoglio engines, and have gained popularity in the US since their introduction in 2015 & 2016, respectively. Offering luxury and performance at a lower price than European competitors, it's hard not to like these Italian-made luxury vehicles.

FIAT 500, 500L, & 500X - FIAT's vehicles have long been known for their striking style and unique personality. In Europe, FIAT's vehicles are popular city cars, as they are easy to park and utilize efficient engines. In the US, they represent a refreshing departure from typical compact car styling. With the introduction of the 500X, FIAT entered the crossover space, equipping it with universal AWD and an increased ride height.

Jeep Renegade - The popular Jeep Renegade, Jeep's smallest crossover, is produced in Melfi, Italy. This is the first Jeep to be manufactured exclusively outside North America for sale in the US, and has been a smash hit among Greer drivers who want a compact vehicle with Jeep's renowned capability. It is based on the same platform as the FIAT 500X, and combines efficiency, style, and capability in a small package.

Maserati - Maserati has also been gaining popularity in the US due to its high-performance, attractive vehicles. Designed to compete a tier up from Alfa Romeo, Maserati is considered an ultra-premium brand. Just a look at the engines and design of these sports & luxury vehicles, and it's easy to see why.

Vehicles Made by FCA USA

Despite its merger with the Italian automotive giant FIAT, Chrysler's stable of vehicles continues to be produced in North America. While many of FCA USA's vehicles are produced right here in the USA, others are built in Mexico and Canada. Chances are, our Charlotte, NC customers will be very familiar with many of these vehicles.

Chrysler 300 & Pacifica - Both of these popular Chrysler vehicles are currently manufactured in Canada, as is the Pacifica Hybrid. As one of the originators of the minivan, the lion's share of Chrysler-branded vehicles is from the Pacifica. This technologically-advanced minivan is a favorite among South Carolina families. Meanwhile, the Chrysler 300 is one of the last full-size, RWD American sedans left in production. With powerful engine options and a luxurious interior, the Chrysler 300 is a unique vehicle in many ways.

Dodge Charger, Challenger & Grand Caravan - Dodge's powerful sedans and economical minivan are all manufactured in Canada. The FCA partnership is responsible for the revamped Charger and Challenger models, which represent the ultimate combination of power and practicality when it comes to full-size sedans and sports coupes. Meanwhile, the Grand Caravan offers Greer families an economical, practical minivan with a wide range of options.

Jeep Grand Cherokee & Dodge Durango - The Jeep Grand Cherokee has been made in Detroit, MI since its introduction. This midsize SUV has been phenomenally popular for decades, and represents many of Jeep's top design principles. Its Trackhawk trim level holds the record as the fastest production SUV. The Dodge Durango is manufactured in in the same plant, and is a powerful three-row SUV. The Durango is often chosen over competitors for its combination of powerful engines, spacious interior, and muscular styling. Not to mention that even its more luxurious trim levels often undercut competitors' pricing.

Jeep Compass & Dodge Journey - The Jeep Compass is made in Toluca, Mexico. This "just-right" compact crossover combines attractive styling with a comfortable cabin and efficient driving experience. Jeep's advanced AWD systems make the Compass much more capable than most vehicles in its class. The Dodge Journey is also made in Toluca, and is one of Dodge's most popular vehicles, due to its ideal size and value.

Jeep Wrangler & Gladiator - Both the Jeep Wrangler and its new stablemate the Jeep Gladiator are made in Jeep's longstanding Toledo, OH plant. The Wrangler is truly legendary for its off-road ability and iconic styling. And the Jeep Gladiator has received massive acclaim for being the most powerful midsize pickup truck, while also going toe-to-toe with the Wrangler when it comes to off-roading.

Jeep Cherokee - The Jeep Cherokee is made in Belvidere, Illinois, and is one of Jeep's most popular models. Smaller than the Grand Cherokee, it is a great option for Spartanburg shoppers who want a great blend of capability, cabin space, and efficiency. Its engine lineup ensures versatility, and its recent facelift gives it a sleeker, more premium look.

RAM 1500 - The RAM 1500 is made in Warren, Michigan. One of the most highly rated pickup trucks of all time, the RAM 1500 is the peak of comfort, luxury, and technology in the pickup truck market. The Warren plant has been in business for over 70 years, and is responsible for all of RAM's 1500 models throughout the years.

RAM 2500, 3500, 4500, 5500 & ProMaster - Currently, all of RAM's Heavy Duty vehicles are manufactured in their Saltillo, Mexico plant. However, FCA is in the process of moving production to the Warren, MI plant by the end of 2020. The redesigned 2020 RAM 2500 was named Motor Trend's Truck of the Year, and is the class-leader in almost every way. Meanwhile, the ProMaster was introduced after the FIAT Chrysler merger, and is one of the most city-friendly cargo vans available.

FIAT Chrysler Vehicles - Global & Local Powerhouse

For anyone who wondered how the FIAT Chrysler merger would turn out, there's no doubt that it has been a resounding success. While not everyone knows that FIAT makes popular brands like Jeep and RAM, it's clear that they have brought these legendary vehicles into a new era. Whether we're talking about FIAT & Alfa Romeo vehicles built in Italy, or the award-winning RAM 1500 out of Michigan, FCA's lineup is truly second to none.
