Passiflora quadrangularis - Giant Granadilla, Square-stemmed Passion Flower
Giant Granadilla (Passiflora quadrangularis) has characteristic, four-angled stems and produces beautifully colored, reddish-purple-white flowers and large, edible fruits.
From this Giant Granadilla (Passiflora quadrangularis) you can expect spectacular flowers as well as huge fruits that give this plant its name. The approximately 10cm large petals are deep red, while the corona is striped with white and purple – a striking combination. If the green pistils in the center are pollinated by bees or bumblebees, mango-sized fruits form under glass, containing large quantities of the juicy, aromatic and vitamin-rich flesh, which ripens until fall. Characteristic of all evergreen or semi-evergreen Passiflora (depending on winter temperature) are the square stalks that require coarse-meshed trellises.
Quality: edible & very large fruits; exotic and showy red-purple flowers; vigorous climber
Use: in pots from May to September outside on balcony and terrace with overwintering indoors - all year round in a heated conservatory
